July

She knew that she could never escape it. No matter how much she tried. But she wished to make her parents happy. She needed the dopamine rush from their praises after putting her blood, sweat, and tears into her work.

But with everything she did, came more and more criticism.

"You should've done it this way", or, "You should have done this".

It made her feel as if she was dragging her heart and lungs through shards of glass and flames only for them to say, "You aren't doing it right." It angered her and dazed her at the same time. It made her feel like a piece of garbage that just can't live right.

"Jule," her mother interrupted her thoughts. July glanced up at her, seeing her in her red dress and red heels. "We're going out for a few hours; do you mind?"

"Oh, no! Go on," she smiled. "You look amazing by the way. Stunning, even."

"Oh, thank you my sweet darling!" she chirped, running into her room and cupping her face before giving her a big, fat kiss on her nose, then all over her face. "Don't open the door for anyone, got it?"

"Got it."

"And make sure the door is locked."

"Got it."

"Bedtime is at 10."

"Okay, mom! Go, bye!" she giggled.

"Goodbye, honey," she gave her one last quick kiss before leaving. "Pleaseee, stay safe!"

"You too, mommy." Her mother scampered out of July's room, leaving her alone, and silent in her own room.

She sighed. It was going to be a long night ahead of her.

She laid there in bed, pondering away about her life, her experiences, her new friends- Grey. Screwing everything she was previously thinking about, Grey now consumed her brain. Grey enveloped her, for some reason.

He intrigued her.

She had always thought of Grey as this big guy who hated everybody and broke stuff when he felt like it. She had always thought of him as a smoking emotionally unintelligent guy who shoved his puny thing into anything with a pulse.

But he was almost the opposite... He was attractive, emotionally and frustratingly very intelligent, calm, and reserved. Sure, he did smoke, but he was respectful with it.

He was the total opposite of what she thought he would be like. She expected disrespect and a huge stick shoved up his butt but she got a respectful gentle giant with humor and personality.

She smiled. Nice.

Maybe this could be a friendship? Or just a truce, call it quits kinda thing?

RING! RING!

Someone was calling her, but she was too much in thought even to pick up the phone.

RING! RING!

She groaned and relented, but as she checked the caller ID, her heart leaped out of her chest. Grey. Why was Grey calling her?

It must be important, right? Or maybe it was just chit-chat.

"Hello?" she called out.

Silence on the other end for a while.

"Hello? Grey? You alright?" she called out again.

"Yeah, I'm... fine. Sorry for calling you so late," he finally responded.

His voice was deep and husky, it rumbled through her entire body. She gulped and pulled herself together, scolding herself. "It-it's fine. What's up?"
