Grey found himself listening to every word she said, focusing on every line she put out into the air as she rambled on and on in the busy cafe for hours.

If this were any other person in any other place, talking about any other topic he'd be sneaking glances at the clock and thinking over how he would end the conversation, when he was going to leave... But he found himself roped in a casual "Hey, I just met you" conversation. Why? How?

...Something about her felt so nice to him.

He gazed into her green eyes, getting lost in her expressions, her voice, and her cadence while talking. He stared on with a lovesick expression until she took a forkful of her lunch and plowed it into her mouth. Finally, sense came back to him like a slap across the face.

What the hell was he doing?

He shook whatever feeling he just had and ate a piece of the neglected velvet cake that he ordered. He stared down at the plate, ignoring whatever gaze he might get.

"How is it?"

His eyes flew onto the blonde ray of sunshine who was gazing upon him in deep curiosity, her eyes sparkling as a grin displayed on her face.

Something about it made his heart flutter.

He scoffed and scolded himself. "Sweet. Filled to the brim with sugar."

She rolled her eyes, her grin widening. "Yeah, whatever, pops."

"I hope you pay for my hospital stay when I get diabetes," he grumbled. Pops?

He rolled his eyes, but a grin worked its way on his face too.

All he could hear over the clinking of coffee mugs and idle chatter was sweet, light laughter. And all he saw was beauty.

Then within the light cheery laughs came snorts, random inhales, and pauses, only for her to laugh again and harder.

Was it such a good joke, or was she trying to make him feel better about his upcoming hospital stay?

All in all, he couldn't help but grin.

Something about her just delights him in a way no one can or ever will. Something about her keeps him longing to see her again. Something.

"Okay, it wasn't that funny, Jule," he scolded.

She only laughed harder. He wanted to smack her.

He checked the time, it was two o'clock. And a thought dawned on him.

All they've been doing here for the past hour was idle chatter, nothing on the related assignment, just experiences. Like they were getting to know each other better.

His face returned to the usual scowl before interrupting July's laughter. "What are we doing here again?"

Still recovering from her laughing fit, and still laughing, July gasped, "I forgot."

"You forgot why we were here?"

"Yup!" she giggled.

And something about her made him want to get up and leave- sometimes. He needed those marks. "No one else is coming?"

She shrugged, frowning. "I invited them, but I guess not."

He sighed before taking his eyes off the time to her face, only to see that a slight frown had replaced that stupid grin he loved.

"Well, ya snooze, ya lose," he tucked his phone back into his pocket before inching the plate closer to the girl. "I know you want it, have it."

Her face lit up. "How'd you know?"
