Grey

He took off a day from school yesterday but knew he had to return today. Assignments, notes, lectures- he'd missed them all. And he knew best that even if he missed one day, he could have been set off track by miles.

He hopped into his car in parent mode, ensuring each girl had necessities, and honestly? He was shocked that these girls were so put together, at six and seven years old, he didn't even know how to pack his crayons perfectly. He didn't care enough to. These girls made him feel ashamed of his prior self.

All jokes aside, they finally left the residence. Grey took them to kindergarten, giving them a big hug before leaving for his high school. A blood-curdling chill ran down his spine as he parked in the parking lot.

He had to suffer through book-reading teachers and loud classmates... AGAIN?

Sometimes life is dreadful, but then he remembered... that girl. The blonde girl he'd been seeing in his dreams, that girl he'd been seeing everywhere. She had to be from somewhere, there was no way that some person just appeared in his dreams at the time that July appeared in his life.

Did that solicitous, murder-horse adoring yet so magnetic girl cast some kind of curse on him?

He sighed.

Who was that girl?

Neat blonde hair, green eyes... He devoured a stick of watermelon gum as he left his car, locking it behind him. He headed to the main hall, his mind going mad. Warm smile, blonde lashes, soft and smooth voice, pale skin, soft lips, a birthmark on the side of her tummy...

Huh.

Grey stumbled into a small person, he looked down, his eyes widening when he saw blonde hair and a pair of green eyes.

"Grey!" July smiled up at him. "When did you come? I didn't even see you there!"

What a coincidence...

He gathered himself, taking her in. "Oh... I... I just arrived. Sorry, I didn't see you standing there."

She expressed a small 'hmph' sound as she crossed her arms around her chest in dissatisfaction, her long-sleeved laced shirt rumpling with her. She looked so cute.

He laughed. "What?"

"Of course, you didn't see me! You're too tall and you don't even care about me enough to watch out for me!"

He held himself together enough to not fall apart from laughing. "Where is this coming from, sunshine?"

"Do you know how many times you almost tripped over me? Or left me to walk behind you because you walk too fast? Or abandon me because, again, you walk too flipping fast!" she complained.

"Are you implying that I should slow down for your sake?"

0not called murder horses! They're uni-"

"Murder horses with a coned spear in their heads."

"No! They're a-"

"Myriad representations of death."

"NO! It's called a U. N. I. C. O. R. N."

"Oh, so ugly horses with a coned spear collecting their last brain cell?"

"NO!!" she laughed. "I give up. I give up."

He chuckled, smiling.

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!! RIIIIIIIIIING!!!

That was the bell. And classes finally began.
