Dear Emily,
You know I only get one phone call per day, and the only person I want to talk to is not answering. Are you caught up with school? How are your shifts? Is everything okay with rent? Because you should remind them we paid for the whole year in advance. Have you made any new friends? Tell me how you've been, I miss you.
Always and forever yours,
David.

Things had been weird in David and Emily's apartment. School was taking a lot of Emily's time and they couldn't spend the mornings together. For a few weeks, they'd been meeting up for lunch since Emily needed more time to sleep and study. They were telling themselves it would all pay off. She would open up her own studio, filled with instruments and the songs she would compose soon, because that was one of the lessons she was taking at school. Yes, she'd been given piano lessons for as long as she could remember, but that didn't mean she remembered everything she had been tought. It had been some time since she had been learning with a teacher.

Emily walked into the school's cafeteria, seeing David on a table, with their food already on it. She smiled lovingly. She was so lucky to have him. A man who treated her like a princess. She didn't care if her parents didn't like him, she loved him and one day they would get married.

On the other side of the table was David, seeing his girlfriend walk towards him. She was a beauty, her long hair, which she had bleached a couple of days ago, so the color was shiny, her blue eyes filled with happiness. Her eyes had such a weird color. They weren't green but they also weren't blue. He really admired them. What? She was a slow walker, he couldn't help checking her out. Her brown shirt, although plain, was amazing with her white trousers that hugged every curve and her jean jacket. She looked like a model.

"Hi baby" He said once she was in front of the table, standing up to kiss her. They hugged for a few minutes, Emily's perfume tingling his nostrils. That was her favorite and it fit her perfectly. If he had to describe her, one of the first words that came to mind were the combination of coconut and vanilla. They sat back down and started on their meal. Emily told a story from today's lesson and David laughed so hard that soda came out of his nose, which made the whole thing even funnier.

An hour later and with a heavy heart, they hugged each other goodbye as David went home to rest and Emily was headed to her next class. On her way there she was stopped by one of her new friends, Jane. "Oh my god, Emily! Was that your boyfriend?" Emily blushed at her friend's comment, giving only a nod as confirmation to the question. "Where have you been hiding him, girl?" Jane was shaking her hair all around, letting it get through her hoops. Emily liked Jane's style. It was very sophisticated, appropriate for school but also still showed Jane's character. Emily was sure that if Jane hadn't followed music, she would have been in fashion.

They went into class and seized their talk once the professor walked in. Jane was studying violin but this was a class for all instrument players so they had it together and it was a chance for her to make friends, which is how she found Jane. They sat next to each other in the first lesson and had been like that ever since. They had made plans to go for coffee and study together after school, which David seemed happy about when Emily told him. She was sad they wouldn't spend that time together, but David had to sleep and she had to make new friends, she couldn't depend on him as much as she already did, it would burden him.

David on the other side, didn't mind at all. He wanted to spend every wake and sleeping second he had with Emily. Yes, he had friends, but they didn't have to see each other daily. That's what weekends were for. He couldn't understand that 'women logic'. Why did they have to get together on a daily basis? They were at school together all day and Emily had explained to him before how the time at school was not the same as the time they hung out, but he still wouldn't get it. He was happy Emily was making friends, but it was the third time this week she would be going out. It was to study but she could do that at home, right? He could even help her, organize her books or help her study. He just couldn't wrap his head around it, but he still accepted it. He decided to let it go for now and get ready for his shift. Actually, Emily's shift. He had taken up some shifts for her to help her out. The owner of the cafe was fine with it, as long as it worked out. David was tired, but he would do anything to make his girlfriend happy. School made her happy so he had to suck it up like a man, go to the cafe, take orders and wipe tables, and that's exactly what he did for the next six hours.

At the end of his shift he went home, drank a beer and went to the subway. He got off at his station and walked the rest of the way to the club, which was fewer than ten minutes. He liked walking at night. The fresh air calmed him. He was extremely tired, considering he had to work two jobs now, but everything was worth it for Emily. He went inside, ordered a beer and then went to the door, exactly like he did last night and the night before that.

Towards the end of his shift, a drunk guy came up to him, but his name wasn't on tonight's list. He was ordered to let girls in, whether they were on the list or not, but if a guy's name wasn't on the list he was not getting in. "I'm sorry, dude, these are the rules" David said. He offered to call a cab for the drunk but he refused very rudely. What happened next, definitely wasn't on David. "Just let me in, man, c'mon. My girl's in there and I wanna get down" The drunk said, grinding by himself in the air. David wanted to laugh at him. He understood the man wanted to go to his girl, but if his manager found out he'd be fired in an instant. "No can do, sir. If you could call her, ask her to meet you somewhere else, maybe?" The drunk slurred as he went forward. David was built like a door, he was huge and had much muscle. Back home, he was waiting for Emily for a whole year, the gym became a necessity for him and now it had paid off, it was his muscles that gave him the job.

He shook his head, listening to the guy in front of him rant "She is not my girl, not exactly. I mean she used to be, things just got complicated. Look dude, if I don't go in to find her right now she'll never be mine, please man, just this once" David sighed. He felt sorry for the guy, but orders were orders. He was told to ignore drunks and so he ignored the drunk, but the drunk got angry. "Look dude, I've been busting my ass off, following this girl so I can get her back to my place and work it out". David heard the anger in the man's voice and he was sure there was something there. He thought the man was passionate about the girl he so desperately wanted back. Besides, if the roles were reversed, he would appreciate the help to win Emmy back.

"Give me her name". He told the man as he looked at the screen in his hands, scrolling through the names of the people on the inside of the building. "Anabelle Trevors", The man said, a mischievous smirk on his lips that reeked of alcohol. David searched for her name and called up the guys inside. Soon after, one of his colleagues escorted the girl out and her eyes widened at the image of that man. "What are you doing here?" She asked him, stepping back. David had a feeling something was off but now he was sure, the drunk was no good. "I'm here for you, baby. Now, let's go back to my place, I knew you wouldn't run away from me" He took a step towards her, offering her his hand. "Please, make him leave, I have a restraining order against him, this man is dangerous!" The girl cried out. Upon hearing those words, David put his body in front of her like a wall.

"Sir, please step away from this club". He knew something was off. Why did he ignore his instincts? The man got angry and started cussing and making gestures with his hands. He got close to David and pushed him, but David didn't move an inch. He punched the guy, making him fall to the ground. He didn't get back up. The bouncers called the police, who picked him up and took him to the nearest station for the night. The girl was escorted to her car after her request, but she was too drunk to drive. David's shift would be ending soon, so he offered to take her home. She accepted gladly and they left soon after.

On the way to the girl's apartment, she told him about her relationship with the man he had punched, how he was manipulative and overprotective and how jealous he was of her friends. David shook his head. That would never happen to him and Emily. He missed Emily. He wanted to be done with this so he could go home and cuddle her.

The girl hugged him when they reached her home and asked him to come up, in case the guy was set free. His conscience wouldn't be able to take the guilt if that happened, so he accepted. David was a good guy, but he was naive. And the girl that was taking off her clothes in front of him didn't know he had a girlfriend. He promised himself he wouldn't tell Emily, it would make her sad and he wanted nothing but happiness for her. So, he let Anabelle take off his belt as she got on her knees.
