Harry had escorted him down the steps when they reached the port, helped him into the carriage before climbing in next to him. They had been one of the last few people to leave the ship. Being the captain, Harry had ensured other's travels had been ready and had then returned to Louis.
Louis recognised the Royal symbol on the carriage and the guards riding behind it. The horses were well trained and groomed to perfection. This wasn't merely for his welcome, surely not.
The people in the streets pointed and gawked as the carriage lead its way to the castle. The news of them winning the war had travelled already and the children were trying to run alongside, cheering their thanks.
Harry had lead the war-front afterall, it wasn't too weird that their carriage was receiving cheers and praise.
Up till now Louis had surmised that Harry had lead as a War General and held the title in high ranks of Royal Navy, high enough to captain a whole fleet.
He could be a Duke or a Lord, but Louis had never met any Royalty who was kind or polite. He knew he had enough intel to deduce what title Harry held, but his life experience refused to agree with it, so Louis couldn't keep his finger on the obvious.
When they reached the castle, Louis gaped at the high walls and the architecture with an open mouth. The guards at the tall gates gave a proper salute, expressions stoic, unmoving. It was a little intimidating, and Louis had rarely felt intimidated in his life.
The reality crashed over his shoulders. What if the King sentenced him to imprisonment? What if he was beheaded for helping their enemies? What if he was made a pariah here as well?
A hand gripped his own, pulling him out of the downward spiral.
"Hey, this might seem too much but no one here will harm you," Harry spoke softly, rubbing his thumb in circles over the inside of Louis' wrist, "I won't let any harm come to you."
"You'll be my saviour?" He meant to say it as a diversion from his anxious thoughts, but it came out a little too desperate, a little too fond, a little too close to the truth.
"I will," Harry promised, sealing it with a kiss to his knuckles.
Louis smiled, "Gentleman."
