Having your dream job, dream apartment, dream everything doesn't necessarily mean you're happy. And i'm learning that as a 22 year old author.Another day at this publishing company trying to compile something decent and yet my manager seems as cheeful as she was last week.
"What's with the grin?" I asked Lena who seemed to be in a better mood than she was last week when Miss Helen checked up on us.
"Ingrid you know that you are PHENOM's only romance genre author, right?"
"Yes."
Lena is right. I am the only romance writer under this company. Most authors here are known for their if not motivational books, then their marketing/business books. Basically a company that centers their books around uplifting people.
I am their risk.
Taking in the "Gai" was their go big or go home.
Contacting me to sign to Phenom was a shock because Phenom never really took authors who wrote romance under their wing. It's an unstable genre, where it heavily relies on emotions where as compared to books they've published so far that fuels drive and motivation. Those books tend to do well under Phenom.
Hence why, I am the risk they took.
Hence why most employees do not favor my existence here.
"And since the boss wants to expand their genre they hired you right?"
"Correct, they've never had a romance genre centered author that's why they wanted to have me for a change of pace in Phenom"
"Correct! Miss Ingrid you have a scheduled dinner later with the boss at 6 pm to discuss something important with you for your next book!"
"Lena wait, one my drafts got approved?" She just flashed a smile at me and left my workspace leaving me ahocked and clueless.
None of my drafts were good enough to release to the public, at least within my standards.
What the fuck?
