The next morning the teenagers were summoned to the sheriff's station to be interrogated one by one, Sheriff Goode sat opposite each of the teenagers and pressed record on the tape recorder, "Interview with Lana Fier. Sunday, October 2nd, 1994," He looked up at the teen in front of him, "Wanna tell me what happened?" Sheriff Goode asked.

"We were picking up Sam's prescription," Lana said.

"And the lights went out," Deena said in her interview.

"It was pitch black," Josh said in his interview.

"I really couldn't see anything," Sam said in her interview.

"We ducked behind a counter," Declan said in his interview.

"We hid until it was over," Danny said in his interview.

"How'd you get that?" Sheriff Goode asked as he pointed to wounds on a few of the teenager's hands.

"I feel on some glass," Deena said in her interview.

Josh cleared his throat, "Feel on some glass," Josh said in his interview.

"Fell on glass," Declan said in his interview as he covered the bandage.

"I feel on some glass, as I said, it was pitch black," Danny said in his interview.

"You had 15 stitches on your shoulder," Sheriff Goode said as he looked at Lana.

"Old cheerleading accident... I reopened the wound when I fell on some glass," Lana said and Sheriff Goode watched her as she looked back at him.

"Sam, you look like a ghost. like you just came back from the dead," Sheriff Goode said in Sam's interview.

"Shock, I guess," Sam said in her interview.

"I'll tell you what the facts tell me," The sheriff inhaled deeply, "The junkies-" Sheriff Goode said.

"Here we go," Lana scoffed as she looked away.

"Kate and Simon?" Deena said in surprise in her interview.

"They weren't junkies," Josh said in his interview.

"They were my friends," Danny said in his interview.

"Yeah Kate was pissed I left with dad to Sunnyvale, but we grew up together and they weren't junkies," Declan said in his interview.

"They're to blame for everything. That feels too easy to me," Lana looked at him in anger, "But that's the story this department will go with unless you can help me to see it differently," Sheriff Goode said.

"Tell me, will you actually listen to me... I mean, we came here to tell you about the hospital but if I recall correctly, you thought it was a prank and laughed at us," Lana tilted her head, "Why should I tell you anything now? Nick Goode, King of Sunnyvale, right?" His eyes widened a little, "Yeah... My aunt told me the truth and you know exactly what I'm talking about... No matter what you're told, it'll just be another Shadyside tragedy, like the rest. An underprivileged overachiever with bright prospects. A guy who's been supporting his family alone since he was fifteen. Both succumbing to the quick cash of drugs. Fits the narrative, right?" Lana bit her tongue briefly, "Nice and neat," Lana said.

Sheriff Goode leaned towards her, "You came here for my help. I should have listened to you. I'm sorry. I'm listening now," He said.

"But there's nothing else to say, you let us down," Lana said.

"Do you really want your friends going down for this?" Sheriff Goode asked as he leaned back.

"No, but they're dead. Like the rest, the dead can't fight for themselves and no one believes the friends as the dead can't talk," Lana stood up and picked up her bag as she looked at them, "And if they could, I bet you'd find a way to cover it up so that Shadyside looks bad, again and again... I think we're done here," Lana said and walked to the door.
