DATE NIGHT
"Actually I'm his girlfriend." I hold Chan's hand and his mom's eyes widen but she quickly starts smiling at me with joy.
I look over at Chan and he, too, is surprised.
You owe me big time, Chan.
"What?!" Mrs. Bang exclaims and her hand goes up to her mouth, I am just as shocked as them. I honestly don't know what came to me. "You know, I'm actually not surprised."
"What do you mean?" Chan asks while holding my hand back and leaning a bit to my side so that we are closer. I'm used to being close to Chan but given the context right now, my heart is more than happy to throw a party.
"Oh Chan, please… I might be getting older but not dumb." She rolls her eyes at him " Do you want me to start with the way you look at her with heart eyes?" She switches her stare to me "Or maybe how you are always leaning onto him in every way possible? Seriously, it's obvious that you guys love each other…"
By the end of that, both me and Chan blush. I try to hide it with my hand, pretending Im scratching my face and his mom laughs at my behaviour. Chan holds my hand tighter and I look at him with the sudden touch.
"You are right, mom…" Chan sighs and quickly starts laughing a bit, a nervous laugh to be more exact. "But you know… I have always tried to make it look obvious!" He looks at me for a while and then points at me when he returns his gaze to his mom " But this dumbass never saw it" He is back at looking at me again "I mean, weren't my signs enough?"
His whole statement makes me doubt that, maybe, what he is saying is true, the way he says it, his tone and movements, everything makes me believe that it is true. But maybe Chan is just good at lying. That 's more likely.
"Well, you see, Channie, I've always made it obvious too, for a long time actually…" I laugh thinking about the dumb things I made just to subtly show him I likes him over the years. "You were just too dense, I guess… " Chan is looking at me with an arched eyebrow and subtle smirk.
"What matters is that you finally realized it!" Mrs. Bang says and with that I take the cue to lean on Chan's shoulder.
"Yeah, we are here now." I hear Chan's voice say from a bit above me.
"I'm so happy for you two. You deserve this…" his mom smiles and I can't help but smile back. I just wished I could take those words for real.
"Oh my God! I have to go, I have lunch with my friend's but how about we meet after?" His mom is quick to get up.
"Maybe dinner? We don't have any plans." Chan responds. We.
"Oh, dinner would be nice!"
"Hey babe," I say with a strange sudden confidence and Chan looks at me, cheeks a bit flustered. "How about we go to that restaurant we have been wanting to go? I think your mom would love it."
Chan knows exactly what restaurant I'm talking about. For some time now, I have been keeping my eyes on it and I know it's very hard to get a reservation since many people love it and go there, but I also know that Chan knows the Chef so, this is going to be the perfect way to pay me for being his girlfriend. Fake girlfriend.
Chan quickly gets what my move is and smiles while holding into a side hug. "Sure, let's do that."
"Okay, it's a date then! See you guys later!" His mom waves and leaves the cafe and as soon as she does I sigh and lean even closer to Chan, melting onto him with exhaustion.
Chan rests his head on top of mine and sighs too "Thank you." He mumbles.
"No problem Channie." I close my eyes for a moment. If there is one thing I hate is lying, so having to do it for three days isn't going to be easy for me.
