Chapter 18

Paige POV:

It's a couple days later and we are in Bridgeport Connecticut playing Indiana in the Sweet Sixteen. We are losing 14-10 with a couple minutes left in the first quarter.

Azzi hits a three making it 14-13. I go up to guard my player on defense. Her teammate tries to pass her the ball but I am able to get my hand on it as I reach for it, falling to the ground.

Pain shoots up my knee the second I hit the floor and I grab it as my teammates rush over to me.

"You good?" Azzi asks

"Yea help me up" I say extending both my arms for her to grab which she does.

Once I'm standing again and have weight on my leg it makes the pain worse so I limp my way over to the bench where Nika subs in for me and I sit down as Janelle looks at my knee.

Sky comes over and hands me my water bottle.

"Thanks" I tell her as I take a sip

"No problem. What's wrong?" She asks

"I don't know. When I went to steal the ball and fell, my knee started hurting" I say annoyed because I'm tired of being injured I just want to play

Janelle puts extra support tape on my knee before saying I'm good to go and Sky and I walk back to the other side of the bench and sit down.

I was able to play the rest of the game and we ended up winning 58-75.

A few days after we played NC State in the Elite Eight and beat them too. It went into double overtime it was insane and very tiring.

The day after the win against NC State we flew to Minnesota where the Final Four and National Championship are being held.

When we land there are custom UConn buses waiting for us at the airport that give us a police escort to the hotel.

Once we get to the hotel there are a bunch of paparazzi waiting for us at front of the doors.

"Alright when you guys get off the bus, head towards the front doors and grab your bags, there are guys unloading them from under the bus right now" CD says as everyone stands up

I'm sitting next to Sky in the back of the bus so we have a while until we can get off but I use this time to stand in the aisle and stretch my leg.

"How's your leg doing?" Sky asks me

"It hurts still but I think it's because we've been traveling all day" I say honestly

"Well when we get inside our room let's take it easy for the night" she says

"But there's a game room" I say making a pouting face at her

"What do you wanna do in the game room?"

"Beat Amari in fortnite that's what. I'm a pro" I say smiling at her

"You're crazy you know that?" She says smiling at me

"I'm you're crazy though" I say

"Sit down for a second" Sky says patting the seat I was previously seating in on the drive to the hotel. I listen to her and sit down.

She grabs the side of my face and pulls me in for a soft sweet kiss.

"What was that for?" I ask once we pull away smiling at her

"You're cute that's what. And I needed you to sit because if I kissed you standing all those cameras pointing at the bus focusing on you would see. But you see these seats in front of us, they are blocking their view" she says

"Oh are they now?" I say smirking leaning in to kiss her again

"Ok you two, you can suck faces later, let's get off the bus" Nika says which makes us laugh.

We both stand up and Sky was right, all the cameras outside are focused on me. I hadn't realized that before.

"When we get off the bus just go straight inside, I'll grab your bag" Sky says softly from behind me as we are walking to the front of the bus

"No you don't have to carry it, I got it" I say turning around so I'm facing her

"No. I don't want you carrying it and putting extra weight on your knee. I'll get it" she says giving me a look not to argue with her

"Ok fine" I say giving into her "I love you" I add

"I love you too" she says. I know if there weren't cameras focused on us right now she would've leaned in and given me a kiss, but it's okay.
