The moving truck was in our driveway and all of the boxes were being loaded onto it, ready to be shipped to our new home. I had already said goodbye to my closest friends and took a final trip to the bakery in town to say goodbye to my former co-workers. Overall, it had been a pretty emotional day. But I was also full of excitement.

As soon as the truck was gone with most of our belongings we hopped in the car and were off to the airport to catch our flight. It was nonstop, which meant I would be so jetlagged by the time we get to the hotel.

Sydney, you have been great for the past 17 years.

Hawaii, see you in 22 hours!

~~

"Do you kids want anything to eat?" my mom asked from the passenger's seat of the car. We were on our way to the hotel. We had been in Maui for less than two hours and all I wanted was a bed to sleep on. And Josh to stop talking for a minute.

"Yes mom!!!!! Can we get McDonalds PLeaSE!! " He yelled loudly. I was so close to yelling back at him to be quiet, but he was only 8, and he would probably cry. My head was pounding and I wanted out of this cheap ass rental car.

"Okay sweetie. Leti, would you like anything from McDonalds?" my mom asked quietly, while my dad made a sharp left turn onto a street.

"No, mom, I just want a bed and a pillow!!! Ugh." I rolled my eyes.

"We will be at the hotel very shortly, calm down. Are you sure you don't want anything?" She said with a pleading expression. She was tired too, and that look was one of the many familiar "mom" faces that you get when she telepathically talks to you and you know exactly what she is saying. In this case;

"I'm tired too and you don't need to be wining like a child. Could you please shut up and stop making this more dramatic than it needs to be."

"A medium oreo Mcflurry please." I responded, looking back out the window.

Hawaii wasn't too different from Sydney. But at the same time it was. The palm trees were beautiful just like the ones back home. But there was something that made it different. Maybe it was the stores, maybe it was the people, but all in all, being in a different location of the world and being able to start over, discover and connect to a whole new place was breath taking.

It was like a permanent vacation. (ha)

"This is our house!?" I asked in awe of the gorgeous home. I thought my parents were going all out when they told me that we were moving to Hawaii, but now I was eager to see what else they had up their sleeves.

"Yes it is. I picked it." my dad chimed in happily. Clearly he loved the house.

It sat on the top of a very large hill covered in trees of every sort. It looked brand new, lined with four large pillars at the front and tall glass windows. When I went in, all of the furniture and appliances were new, and it was so huge and spacey. We had to set up the computer, tv, and internet still but they hadn't been shipped yet. I didn't mind because I just wanted to go exploring.

"Hey kids! Come check out the backyard!" My dad yelled for us. I left the room that I called dibs on and descended the huge staircase. I walked toward the patio doors where my dad was standing and my eyes widened at the sight of the huge pool. The back patio was gorgeous and we had out own little campfire on it. I walked over to the steps leading off the patio onto the grass, and 10 metres from the deck was where there was a break in the tree line of the forest which gave a perfect view of the ocean and beach. It was quite far to the bottom, and then I realized that we had our own staircase down to the beach.

The wooden stairs went through the forest so I couldn't even see how far down it went. But I decided to check it out anyway.

The beach was beautiful. The sand was near white, and the water was so clear. I knew I would be down here often. I loved the beach back home, and the waves here looked perfect for surfing. My dad started teaching me how to surf when I was a kid, so now, at 17, I would say I was decent at it.

I sat on a log and stared out at the horizon. Wow, this was my new home. This was the start of a new life. This was-

"What are you looking at?" A male voice asked from behind me, followed by the most infectious giggle I have ever heard in my life.

I turned around to see who the guy was standing behind me.

...Woah. {a/n I thought to myself when i saw him bc holy fuck daddy af}

"Hi, I'm Ashton. You must be new here."
