Tired, Trent walked over to a nearby pond, tripping at every third step, so he could get a drink and cool his face in the hot sun. He got down on his knees and started splashing himself with the cold water. He looked at his reflection in the pond, something he would normally do at his house.
Trent stared at himself for a long minute before realizing that something was different. He had a small burn on the side of his forehead. It looked like the shape of an eye. He got up an started walking over to his shack. Blood covered the ground from the previous night of which he could not remember. Trent thought that if he was stuck here, he might as well enjoy it. He took down his lean-to, put out his fire, and headed for a forest.
After he got to the forest, he started snapping large branches off trees. He pulled out a small pocket knife that he always carried with him, and sharpened a bent stick that he found to make a hard wooden pickaxe. He started at some stone on the side of the cliff where he first came here and got three average-sized stones.
After Trent had gotten about seven more stones, he spotted a rooster pecking at some seeds on the ground. He thought that if he collected some of those seeds before the fowl ate them all, he could maybe start a wheat farm. He sneaked over towards the rooster more, and started gathering the seeds. The rooster spotted him taking his seeds and let out an extremely loud cock-a-doodle-do! And started pecking at Trent's feet. Trent grabbed his sword that he had made from two thin stones he mined, and started chasing after the foul fowl. The bird immediately booked it toward the forest. Trent chased after it going at half its speed, due to his tripping over his feet, but finally caught up to the rooster as it lay fainted in a hole. Trent picked it up, and cut its head in two. Then, the rooster evaporated leaving nothing but two feathers, and a raw chicken. Trent looked shocked and figured that it must of been some kind of sorcery from this bewitched land.
As he walked away, Trent heard a low clanking sound, as if someone was shaking a rattle. He examined the hole that the rooster had fallen in, and realized that it wasn't just a hole, but a small cave as well! He jumped down into the cave and thought that he might be able to retrieve some materials for fuel or his tools. As he was busy hacking away at some coal he found, he heard that clanking sound again, this time louder. Trent drew his sword in case anything hostile came out. Then through the darkness of the dreaded cave, and the noise of the scurrying animals above, came the sound of string stretching back like a rubber band.
Trent drew slightly closer to the entrance of the cave, when suddenly, out of the darkness came a single arrow! It struck Trent right in the shoulder. He ducked behind a wall in case of another fire. He saw one more arrow soar past his head and get stuck in a hard stone. Trent wondered that if he was fast enough to dodge the arrows as they flew past him, he might be able to find the source of the shots. He swiftly bolted out of his hiding place as another arrow zoomed past his neck and into another stone. Closing in on the darkness, Trent got shot by another arrow, this time hitting his left ankle. Trent knew that if he got hit a few more times, he would be too vulnerable. Blocking an arrow with his sword, he came closer to the clanking sound which was firing the arrows. Once again deflecting an arrow with his sword, it broke leaving him with nothing other than a few splinters and pebbles.
Lying on the ground in hopeless despair, Trent got shot one more time, finally seeing the attacker. It seemed to be a skeleton about an inch taller than himself. As the skeleton drew back his bow for the final strike, an idea burst into Trent's head. He pulled one of the arrows out of his shoulder, and stabbed it right away through the monster's rib cage leaving it in a state of shock for a second as Trent had a window to strike again. Feeling even more taken back, the skeleton stumbled forward as Trent sliced off the skull with a flint arrowhead and killed the monster.
It too evaporated into thin air, and left behind a bone and two arrows from its quiver. Trent could not take any more, so he lie down, passed out.
