Chapter 8

Leah awoke in a damp cell. The walls were mossy and cracked all over. She got up and grabbed onto the iron bars. She smelt something like sulphur and realized that she was dressed in a ragged leather robe covered in mould.
After her vision cleared, she looked around and saw an endermen shelving books in a library full of cobwebs. She heard approaching footsteps and hid back in the corner pretending to be asleep. She opened her eyes slightly and saw two more endermen surrounding a man dressed in a black hooded cloak that dragged behind him as he walked. He was talking to the endermen and pulling a long chain behind him. Leah couldn't see what was on the other end.
She grabbed a stone and rushed at the man, forgetting about the bars, she slammed into them and dropped the rock. The man shot out a long, black hand with claws extended and grabbed Leah by the throat and lifting her off the ground. He looked at her and all she could see was darkness. He tilted his head extremely slowly, and spoke hoarsely.
"After life, comes death. After hell, comes the void." the hooded man dropped Leah and signalled for the endermen to leave. He started pacing around in circles silently.
"Where am I?" Leah asked clutching her throat.
"In a stronghold, with me." he answered
"Well who are you?"
"Too early for you to know." He stopped pacing and walked over to the library. "All I will say is, Survival of the smartest." He grabbed a huge book from the library and threw it at Leah. She caught it and brushed off the dust on the cover and read: The Overworld. "Three in all: The Overworld, The Nether, and The End. Open all three, all hell breaks loose. Only gate to home." Leah kept rubbing her neck. When the man saw her rubbing it, he said "You've noticed? Good." He unsheathed a sword that was hidden by his cloak and lifted it up to reflect Leah's neck. An eye sat there staring at her through the reflection. Just like Trent's.
"What do you mean?" She asked. "My home is by the coast, with Mark and Trent." The man cringed at the name and spat next to the cell. Then chuckled softly.
"Mark, Trent are dead." He pulled a blue pearl out of his pocket and held it for Leah to see. She looked into the mystical pearl as it showed a burning house and two young boys falling off a cliff, fainted. Leah stumbled back in disbelief. "Who killed them? And where are they now." She almost yelled at him to tell her.
"So many questions, with so little faith." He jerked the Chain and Leah finally saw who was on the end. Mark. Leah crawled to the bars and put her hand on his chest. The man kicked him and dropped the chain. He was dirty and moaning. "So little faith." The man repeated more softly. "This is not who you think." Leah looked back at the hooded beast, her eyes welling up with tears.
"How is this not him?" She muttered. "How could you have-" she was cut off mid sentence by the man.
"But a mirage. In your mind." He slowly took off his hood to reveal himself. It was a man with scars all over his face, and no mouth to speak. Yet he did. "Hello...Leah."
"Ender!?" She gasped and huddled into the corner, getting dizzy. She looked at his hand and realized that it was an endermen's. "How did-"
"After I bailed off that cliff," he started pacing again, his voice no longer raspy. "I used an ender pearl to save myself. Don't think I didn't have a plan. I knew Mark was going to grab me and when he did, I was prepared." Leah still wondered how she could hear him since his mouth remained absent. She felt her neck again. It burned every time he said something. "I then fled to the 'Nether' where I met Scarlet. The woman who set Monty's house ablaze. I taught her how to possess humans like yourself and Trent. I use an eye, she uses a star." Leah looked at the mirage and saw that it was now a strange man. Ender caught her watching him and laughed. "That is what happens, when one gets possessed!"
