I turned pale and froze. What the hell is going on ?! In an instant, I was going to drop it all and run away somewhere. Somewhere where there is no Germans, no blood, let alone no war ...
I tried to control myself and asked him a simple question.
"Are you okay?" I asked, my voice trembling. Alex gave me a strange look, and I realized that I spoke Polish. " Are you alright?" I asked again but in English.
"Ugh, yes. Don't worry. It's normal.'' He knocked me off and quickly went to the bathroom with his hand covering his bloody mouth.
"It isn't normal!" I disagreed and followed him, but he closed the door in my face "Alex!" It was his private affair, and I shouldn't interfere with it if he doesn't want it. "Yes, absolutely. I scared you, didn't I?" He asked suddenly, and when he saw my still pale face, he already knew the answer. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to scare you.'' He scowled and put his other hand on my free arm, and I felt a rush of heat, as if I was boiling from the inside out. He was staring at me intensely with those blue eyes as if wondering. I think he was wondering if he could tell me something, or if it was better to remain silent.
"It's alright ." With a careless movement, I knocked his hands off my shoulders and went back to cleaning. "I'm glad you're okay now."
There was relative silence for a while, punctuated by Alex's footsteps as he paced aimlessly around the apartment, apparently thinking about something. I was dusting his room when the door suddenly clanged shut. I thought it was probably a draft, because I had just opened one window in the living room and another in the bedroom, but it wasn't the wind ...
