                                                                                              Elena

Why do you hate me?

The words re-played in my mind, getting louder and louder each time. Did I treat him that badly that he thought I hated him?

He's been nothing but kind to me and all I've done so far is ignore him. Derek and Jake are not the same people, I knew that from the start. Derek's empty honey colored eyes were nothing compared to Jake's glacial eyes. Jake's very eyes spoke more than Derek ever told me in the whole year I knew him. It was time to forget about what happened and move on.

"I'm sorry, you've been nice to me and all I've done is throw it away" I said heartily

"It's alright, I've never had anyone that didn't like me so it's new" He replied, giving me a cocky grin

"Your ego is bigger than a mountain" I giggled

Why am I giggling like a schoolgirl over him? I internally scolded myself.

"Bigger than my-"

"Don't even" I cut him off before he could finish his sentence

"I was going to say my assets, but you might want to get your mind cleaned" He chuckled

My cheeks immediately turned bright pink. I couldn't fathom the fact that I was opening this side of me to Jake of all people.

"Why did you keep being nice to me?" I asked softly

"You remind me of my sister" He chuckled, but this time he didn't sound as he did usually. It was as if he was hiding something inside.

"What happened to her?" I queried gently

"She got involved with Zolotov without knowing who he really was is and then he shot her because she didn't give Intel on us" He explained wistfully

"And that's why you want him dead" I stated

"Your family and mine have the same motive, you just got trapped in the middle of this mess"

"No one knows how he looks like, if she had any pictures or anything, then we could find who he is and make tracking him easier" I suggested

"I didn't know she was involved with him until she found out who he really was herself, and then he had to handle things, before I got a chance to find something, he already got rid of any information regarding his identity" He sighed

"I'm sorry about her" I whispered so only he could hear

"Funny enough, she was just as feisty and strong as you, she even looks similar" He chortled; the sound like music to my ears

I wanted to freeze this moment forever, where I was in his arms. For once I felt secure, like all harm was just bouncing off of the shield he built over me.

The feeling was foreign on me, but I just wanted to close my eyes and reminisce this moment, stay here forever. I didn't feel like I was imprisoned like how I was with Derek.

"Come on lovebirds, hurry up, I can see the car now" Carlos called to us, pulling us out of our own trance. Now that we were reminded of his presence, he was far away from us. And in a small distance from him, I could see the limo we came from. Jake picked up the pace so that we were now walking alongside Carlos who was whistling to himself, as if he was completely ignorant of our small conversation.

"Fuck off" Jake snapped humorously

"Rather not" Carlos shouted back, getting a small giggle from me

We reached the car, Carlos already opening the door to the back so Jake could put me in. He slowly and gently put me down on the car seat while I was trying not to grimace in pain when my ankle gently brushed the seat, sending a jolt of pain up my leg.

He gently rested my head on his lap, his suit jacket still wrapped around me. His musky scent brought a sense of safety to me, his hand still resting on my shoulder. The car started with a light purr before we set off.

"Did you get our men to finish the rest?" Jake asked, his tone ice cold

"All sorted, and the stocks he stole will come back to us, double the amount" Carlos verified

"The girls?" Jake queried

"All being sent back to their homes by now" Carlos replied

"There was another reason you went after him tonight, right?" I asked

"Some things are left unsaid, Querida" Jake sighed

"Beuno suerte con su hermano" Carlos chuckled in Spanish, sadly it all sounded like a blur to me

"Ella es una guardiana" He added

"Shut the hell up will you?" Jake snapped, causing me and Carlos to chuckle

"Well, he took something from me, basically" He said briefly

"Right" I replied bluntly

"Come on, you've had a long night" Jake said softly

"Tell me about it" I scoffed humorously

I peered at him through my eyelashes, his eyes on the moon that never left us in the dark. I could see the reflection of the roads of Spain through his eyes, on the glittering water of the sea, harshly slapping the shore in attempt to steal everything near and carry it along them. Yet something about the pounding of the waves was soothing, like it went with no tension with them. As if the angry, malevolent waves only looked like that to naked eye; now it looked as if it was running free, free of tension and all worries suddely disspearing.

I closed my eyes, feeling as if a weight was lifted off of my chest and carried away by the sea. And for once, I fell into an undisturbed sleep as we drove along the sea-lined roads of Spain. I was starting to grow on this place.
