Elena
I already knew my target. I was following Jake to where he would be hiding, only a short distance from the room where Adrian was.
"So just tempt him enough that he gets his guards to leave, and then keep him down until I get there" He explained, his grey eyes on mine, I wish he could stare back to beautiful eyes and have the same thought marvel around him as I did. I tore my eyes away, now on the floor.
"Don't take your eyes off of me, don't take the only beautiful thing in this world" He said tenderly, for once I thought if he could hear my thoughts aloud, I found my cheeks burning at his simple compliment, no he probably didn't mean it.
I looked back into his eyes, spotting something different; they weren't ice cold anymore, something thawed the frozen ice in his eyes. Even if they still looked like frozen ice, behind them it was as if a warm lake was flowing rapidly. His eyes were like a glacier.
"If he makes you uncomfortable or you want to get out, just call me through the ear piece" He said softly "If his hands get on you, I'll shoot them off" Jake added
"I can fight my own battles" I reminded him
"Then you shoot them off" He chuckled
"No need to tell me twice" I quipped
"Alright, just check if you can hear me" He said, going back to being professional
Just as he was about to press the button on his ear piece, footsteps came into earshot. I already knew people were coming; most likely one of Adrian's guards. I went into panic mode, looking for what to do. Before I had any time to think, Jake grabbed my waist, wrapping an arm around me and pushed us into a storage closet behind us. I stumbled over an old piece of rope that was lying around before Jake held me, stilling me into balance. I looked at the forced proximity between us, we were practically sharing our breath. My chest was pressed up against his, the walls of the cupboard pressing us in tightly.
Even in the dark I could feel his eyes on me, his touch burned through my skin. He kept one hand on my waist, the other on my arm. He probably didn't move them because they would hear the sound of the subtle movement. I was partly happy that he didn't move his hands. I felt his touch disintegrating through my dress, feeling the callouses of his hands through the thin silk.
My hand was on his chest, our lips only inches apart. If I move my head anymore, our lips would connect. I tried to keep my mind to focus on the footsteps that were dissolving down the hallway but my mind was running a marathon. He starts drawing circles on my waist, as if he was calming himself down.
"They're gone now" He said suddenly, locking me out of my trance
"Right" I said with a disheveled tone
He opened the door, double check and gave the sign that the path was clear. He helped me out of the cupboard, acting as if that band of tension between us two seconds ago was snapped in half. He was back to normal now. My eyes turned cold, as if agreeing with him that the moment we just had meant nothing to me, too. I nodded at him once and walked off. The walk wasn't long to Adrian's door. I pressed the button on my earpiece.
"I'm going in" I whispered before knocking on the door
He opened the door as I put the lost girl face on. He looked like he was in his 50's with light brown hair. There were wrinkles on his face, his eyes drooping low. I could already tell what kind of man he is from the perverted smile he gave me, at least it makes me job easier.
