Saving Phoebe. (Sequel To Broken).

Chapter 17:

Previously on Saving Phoebe: 

"Shh, it's okay," Hayley comforted Tyler.

"No, it's not," Tyler exhaled.

At the Forbes' residence, Ric straightened up and looked at Damon. "We can't just sit on this."

"I can't believe this happened," Damon murmured.

Ric swallowed the lump in his throat. "Come on, we need to call the cops... get Carol to help."

"How did we get this so wrong?" Damon asked. He exhaled and picked up the table cloth next to him. He held his breath as he threw it over Caroline's charred corpse. "Caroline died, damn it, and Bonnie's nowhere to be found."

"You don't think... Phoebe?"

"The bitch is back."

"We need to figure this shit out and fast," Damon walked over to Caroline's corpse and pulled the white sheet away.

"What are you doing?" Alaric was repulsed.

"It's her, alright," Damon swallowed as he stood up.

"Aren't you gonna cover her up?" Alaric felt sick. "Wait, her? What do you mean? That is Caroline... right?"

"It's her. She's back." Damon looked disturbed as he covered Caroline up again.

"Who?"

"She killed Caroline the same way we... killed Kol." Damon whispered.

"We need to-" Ric stopped talking as the front door opened. "Damon, she can't see-"

"Elena, stop!" Jeremy pulled at her arm, with Enzo followed.

"I tried to stop them," Enzo shrugged when Damon stared at him. His eyes fell onto the floor and he was stunned. "What the-"

"Oh my god," Elena had walked in. "Care?!"

"Wh-" Jeremy looked at the body and recoiled. 

"Care!" Elena screamed. 

"Hey, no." Damon sped over and tried to shield Elena.

"No, let me go," Elena grunted. "Care?!"

"Elena, no!" Damon tried to pull her back, "don't!"

"Let go of me, Damon, damn it!" Elena snarled.

"Stop!" Damon grabbed Elena by her arms and shook her. He sighed as his eyes searched for hers. "Baby, stop."

"Please, Damon," Elena whispered.

"It's best if you don't," Damon gently pushed Elena away from the kitchen. 

"Damon," Ric spoke, "we need to all get out of here. Jeremy, go. Elena, come on."

Jeremy was rooted to the spot.

"Come on, mate," Enzo pushed Jeremy, but he remained still. "Move!"

"Elena, stop. Please don't do this to yourself," Damon rested his forehead against Elena's. 

"Move!" Elena pushed him away and yanked the sheet off Caroline's body and stumbled in shock as she fell to her knees. "No... no... this can't be happening..."

"Sweetie," Ric knelt in front of Elena. "Don't look, please."

"No, not Care," Elena began to sob as she tried to get to the burned body. "No, please!"
