As soon as he arrived, James left his ship somewhere on the Neverland, dropped anchor and had no intention of moving it until he had killed Peter once and for all. With the lifeboats, he and his crew went ashore to search every part of the place, slaughtering mermaids and Indians as they passed, as always. Occasionally, it was Peter who went to meet James, taunting him and fighting. They challenged each other for years, but Peter always managed to win, humiliating him and making fun of him. James just couldn't take it. "If you had been my son, I would have taught you good manners!", he yelled at him one day, "You deserve only a lot of spanking, but I prefer to eliminate you completely! You are too rude and insolent, there is no more hope of recovering you!", "Oh, shut up, codfish! If you had agreed to stay here years ago, instead of trying in every way to leave and also take Elizabeth away, you would have been happier! And she too!", "Happy?! You forced us to tell fairy tales every night, and poor Elizabeth, you treated her worse than a slave, she wasn't happy at all! I saved her and now she's fine, thanks to me!", "Sure, now that she's an adult would she be happier? I don't think so!", "You'll never grow up and you'll never know what that means! Since you refuse to understand, you dirty brat, I'll send you to the Creator! At least you won't bother anyone anymore!". James, when he fought against Peter, did so with an uncontrolled homicidal fury, all dictated by his hatred towards him. Peter, on the other hand, laughed as he dueled with him, just like it was a game for him. Peter didn't have any parents either, but unlike James he was always happy and carefree and thought of nothing else, while James had only gotten to grief and disappointment over the years. In part, for this reason, he envied Peter Pan, never having had a real childhood. Moreover, because of him, now the only thing he knew how to do in his life was to be a pirate, nothing else. He had nothing left but his sweet Elizabeth and their baby. He loved the sea and plundering other ships, as he loved to stab and slash his opponents with his hook, and now that it was attached instead of his left hand it was even better. He would never admit it, but on these things he was grateful to Peter, but now because of him he had a huge crocodile at his heels every day and after this umpteenth spite he couldn't forgive him anything anymore. Seeing the crocodile often swim in one of the rivers of the island, on the map he wrote Crocodile River above it, to remind himself that the beast often passed in that area and therefore to be careful not to find it in front of him. During many challenges, James also killed some of the Lost Boys when they tried to stand in his way. He didn't want to be hated by them, but after all he had done, no child loved him. He began to hate children in general. They didn't look at things with his point of view, they were always against him without going to ask themselves why of this behavior of him. Trying to explain would be useless, they just listened to their boss, Peter Pan.
One day, Peter flew off the island and returned in the company of new children. One of these was called George Darling. James soon discovered that he was a relative of Elizabeth's family. He wanted to kill him along with everyone else, he was tired of hearing that surname. However, since he was related to his wife, he decided to give him a chance, along with other children that he captured after the umpteenth battle against Peter. He gave them a choice, either they would join his crew or he would throw them overboard. James hoped they would take sides with him, so that they would admire him and understand him more, but partly he also wanted to spite Peter, after what he had done to him as a boy. Besides him, he had sold Blackbeard so many other kids that he didn't like, so James tried to anticipate him before he did it again, trying to get his friends to become pirates. These, however, had no intention of enlisting, and when James tried to kill them, Peter came to the last second to save them, defeating him as always.
The years passed and James's hatred of Peter was getting stronger, a real obsession. His crew was starting to get impatient, they were always at anchor, the only daily activity was to scour the island in search of Peter Pan. They no longer went to plunder other ships as they used to and this made all the pirates nervous. Smee noticed this and tried to make it clear to James, but the latter didn't want to hear reasons, first he had to get rid of Peter Pan and then he would sail with his ship.
