"They're almost late,"

"Look at the way she walks, how arrogant"

"She didn't even put her hair in a bun."

"Lady Aria must have trouble teaching a girl like her,"

All right, Amanda didn't want to bother. She had expected that such talk would be heard. Some didn't even try to lower their voices. The noble ladies glanced at them with disdainful looks mixed with envy.

Amanda was referred to as an arrogant girl who likes to be picky about her future husband. Even though Amanda just felt that there was no proposal coming from a decent man. Of course she had to be picky because she didn't want her marriage to be like her older sisters.

Amanda walked gracefully with Lady Aria while holding her arm. Their carriage overturned less than an hour ago. But Lady Aria was reluctant to show it. She was elegant and orderly as usual, though her leg was slightly sprained. But she had to drop Amanda off and introduce her. Lady Aria thought of sitting down for a while after greeting the host.

"Greetings, Lady Finley. This is my niece Amanda Bennett, thank you for inviting us," Lady Aria smiled elegantly.

"Greetings, Lady Finley," Amanda bowed slightly to show her courtesy.

"Well, we met last year, in your second season..hopefully next year I won't have to send you invitations to Bennet's house again. Please enjoy tonight's dance," said Lady Finley, who was chubby and wearing too much perfume. There was a hint of sarcasm in her words. Amanda had to get used to it and shouldn't be upset just because of one or two sarcastic remarks.

"Now what? We're already at the ball," Amanda whispered.

"Is this your first season? You should already know what to do. Be sociable..but aunty will lock you up if you sneak out onto the veranda with a young man you just met. Your beauty and virginity are the only things that are valuable from you right now. Auntie's leg hurts a lot from riding. I'm going to the break room first," said Lady Aria almost unconcerned. She had done everything she could.

Amanda slightly scowled, she rolled her eyes and found her sister Violet leaning against the carved columns holding a glass of wine.

The girl paused for a moment and looked back. The man who had helped her had just entered the ballroom. She could hear the moans of the girls as if longing in response to his arrival. Amanda didn't notice his face earlier, because it was dark. She and lady Aria said goodbye to him as soon as they arrived at Finley's mansion to fix their makeup.

Viscount Neville Annesley was surprisingly handsome. Amanda couldn't scoff at the girls who were now trying to get his attention, because Lord Annesley was probably the best bachelor there. How could Amanda not know about him before? As a girl tried to find a husband, of course she followed the gossip and had a list of the names of the most potential London bachelors. She had read Viscount Annesley's name but not much was said about him. It was said that because of him being a soldier and always on the go.

"Violet" Amanda approached and greeted by squeezing her sister's hand whose face looked grim. Did she fight again with Lord Winfrey?

"Oh, Amanda, what took you so long?"

"You know, our horse carriage got into an accident. Only a miracle allowed Aunt Aria and I to be here..our charioteer — may he be rest peacefully in the side of God — is dead,"

"Good grief, are you hurt?" Violet had a worried expression on her face.

"Absolutely not, Aria's aunt also just sprained her but she couldn't go around and say she wanted to rest,"
