I hadn't heard from Chris in a few weeks, which was probably for the best. Tara insisted that there was more to the story than what I knew but I couldn't bring myself to hear it. I thought Chris was one of the few people that would never hurt me and I was proven wrong. Whatever the reason for him hanging out with her he still hadn't been honest about it. If everything was as innocent as he claimed, then he could've been up front about it.
"Why aren't you answering his calls? I hate being the go-between like when we were kids again." Tara grumbles as we meet for dinner and drinks on Tuesday night.
"Because I don't know what to say to him at this point. I don't really believe anything sexual happened between them but it's the fact that we were together and he was talking, in any way, to her. She was the reason we were in the position we were in. And he just wanted to risk that negative exposure again. And don't even get me started on what the paparazzi was saying. About either one of us, depending on which shit stain you read."
"Haven't him and his team been trying to clean that up? They're just allowing you to get dragged through the mud?"
"No. The only thing I responded to was his apology when the first wave of tabloids hit and that him and his team were working on clearing it up. But I've had to set my personal social media profiles to private, and hire a media coordinator to handle any comments on the business's pages, which Chris is paying for. Another way of apologizing Megan tells me."
"Well... that's nice of him."
"Yeah." I say, the sadness I'd been feeling since he left seeping in again.
"So how's that planning going for that big client of yours?"
"The mothers are driving me crazy. No one can agree on anything and I think the bride and groom are going to say fuck all and elope, which at this point, I don't blame them."
"Of course not, cause you'll still charge the mothers."
"Damn right I will," I say taking a sip of my wine. "After all the shit they're putting me through I might up charge them if the kids run off and elope."
"So, Jason and I have been invited to the premiere..." she says after we'd been silent, eating for several minutes.
"Good. I'm glad he's going to have friends supporting him."
"He wants you there."
"I'm not sure that's a good idea."
"Eventually you two will have to talk about this."
"I know. I figured once he's back from the premieres we could." She rolls her eyes but the conversation stops and for that I'm grateful.
*Tara's POV*
I get home after dinner that night and after putting my daughter to bed, I step inside our home office, sitting down at my desk as I pulled my phone out. "Megan, it's Tara. This is getting ridiculous. We have to do something."
