"Hello?" I mumbled, "Yes this is the Curtis residence." I said, confirming the question. You know when you receive news that isn't good and you just kinda sit there and try to take it in? That's exactly how I felt at that moment.

The gang looked at me for answers while I just sat there, not responding, moving, or barely breathing.

As tears slowly filled my eyes I dropped the phone. It felt like it all happened in slow motion.

I let out a shaky breath trying to calm down. This can't be real, it's not real, I kept telling myself.

Death, no matter how much time we spend thinking about it, it's the only way out of this earth.

It can get pretty scary thinking about how we all end up facing it, and how it changes our view on life.

The day my parents left this earth, impacted me and my siblings so much that I don't know how I can ever feel normal again.

It was hard enough that I had to live my whole life knowing my biological parents didn't care about me but now knowing that my adoptive parents left us. it hit me in a way I couldn't explain.

I remember exactly what happened the day we found out they wouldn't be returning home.

The nightmares haunt me in every single way.

From what I recall about that day it started pretty normally.

It was the day after Ponyboy's birthday, he had just turned 14 and was ecstatic for our parents to return home so he could show them the presents he got from the gang.

Our parents said they were coming back the day after his birthday, which was the 23rd.

We were all excited to see them after 3 weeks. We are used to them being gone a lot since they are doctors after all.

Anyways, around 10 am I got dressed since their plane was supposed to land at 2 pm. We all planned on making them a welcome-back party.

It was so cute we had blue and white balloons, a cake, a banner, and pictures we all took together.

It was small but very meaningful. After we finished setting up I took a shower, did my makeup, and hair, and got dressed.

I put on a black satin button-up shirt and jeans.

I went back to the living room to see what everyone was doing.

Ponyboy was counting his birthday money and Johnny was sitting on the couch watching tv.

So I decided to sit down and play on my phone.

I went on tik tok to waste time. I don't remember much after that but I do remember around 4 pm Dallas practically busted down the door running through wanting to tell us something, by now most of the gang was in the living room chilling.
