Before Eve could ask Villanelle what happened, a lady sporting a yellow reflective vest and scanner in hand approached the two of them. Quickly realising that she had come to check their tickets, Eve froze knowing she had only bought a one-way. She looked as guilty as a schoolgirl who forgot her homework at home. Villanelle on the other hand, didn't buy a ticket at all and had managed to sneak her way on the train earlier. Despite this, she felt completely unphased and eyed the lady, ready to challenge her if need be. The lengths Villanelle would take to get the two of them out of a £20 ticket, Eve wasn't quite sure of anymore.
However, all the lady standing adjacent to them could seem to focus on was just how wet these two women were. Their appearances astonished her. What could they have possibly gone through to look this dishevelled? The answer to that question...is a lot. Eve's curls stood at their all-time high; a result of having been dunked in soiled water and blow dried by the freezing AC of the train. Villanelle was quite the opposite. Her golden locks stuck to the sides of her head like honey. Slicked back and dripping.
At this point the lady couldn't care less if they didn't have tickets. She blinked a couple times and tiredly shook her head as she walked along. She was paid far too little to have to deal with these two she thought.
Shocked by the unexpected reaction, the two women looked at each other and let out restrained giggles. Like two girls at the back of the classroom. Eve was the first to break, smiling as she let out a slow sigh and faced the empty seat in front of her once again. Villanelle still looking at her.
Suddenly, Eve felt a head rest on her shoulder.
"I'm tired, Eve." Villanelle spoke as Eve instinctively placed her head atop Villanelle's.
"Where are we going to go?" Villanelle continued. Uncertainty in her words, unsure of whether Eve was even going to come along with her. The last time she had asked Eve to run away with her, it didn't end well.
"Well, I don't have a home in London anymore..." Eve replied slowly.
"We could go to that hotel you stayed at. Well, at least for a few nights. We're going to have to move around a lot if we don't want to be caught." Villanelle thought quickly, her survival instincts kicking in. By now she was deep in her own thoughts and her head no longer rested on Eve's. As she began to realise this, she slowly came back down. Her speech coming to a halt. Eve still deep in thought.
"Is that okay?" Villanelle asked cautiously, trying to get Eve's attention. Eve nodded slowly as she turned to face Villanelle. The two women locked eyes as a shy smile spread across their faces.
