The morning came and went as quick as the night. The morning after, the two women slept like babies throughout the day, waking up only as the sun begun to set. The layer of sweat and grime on their skin had now become as thick as honey. Their bodies clung to the sheets and to each other, making it even harder to get up and take a much-needed shower. Villanelle whispered good morning as she placed a kiss on Eve's head before forcing herself out of the surprisingly strong woman's embrace.

As the clouds passed and the afternoon sun made its entrance, golden beams of light illuminated the room through the cracks of the closed curtains. Waking up to an empty bed, Eve felt a rush of panic flow through her before recognizing a quiet humming in the bathroom.

The events of last night suddenly infiltrated Eve's mind and she couldn't stop the spread of a sly grin that inched towards the corners of her mouth. Last night was one hell of a night for both of them; it was certainly the best and worst night of Eve's life. On the same night Eve thought she had lost the love of her life forever, she then had the best sex of her entire life with that person. It wasn't just sex though. That night she felt connected to Villanelle in a way that extended past the purely physical; a way she had never felt with anyone else before. Villanelle was the one person who understood her and accepted her. They had exchanged "I love you's" during sex for God sakes, and meant it.

Eve realized this morning that she hadn't been this satisfied in a long time. Her rendezvouses with Yusef proved to be insufficient. It was like there was this void in her that she now knows could only be filled by Villanelle. And as for Villanelle, she certainly had never allowed someone in the position Eve was in last night. All her usual boundaries and rules were put to the side and welcomed Eve into her life completely.

Coming back to reality, Eve took in a slow inhale of contentment and was greatly humbled the moment she caught a whiff of her own body odour. She smelled rank. As though she had been dunked in London's River Thames, had all-night sex, and haven't taken a shower since. Oh wait, that really happened. Despite the smell of dirty sheets and sweat, there was a certain sweetness in the air. Finally getting up to open the curtains, Eve took in the sunset. The entire sky was a deep crimson with delicate flecks of light pink, a similar shade to the lipstick Villanelle had once gotten Eve a while ago now. Beams of sunlight infiltrated any open space between the densely packed buildings. The city looked as though it was about to burst into flames. It was the most beautiful sunset Eve had ever seen.
