Wonderful Day (Mumbo Jumbo)

This is a modern AU. So it's not in hermitcraft it's in our world but still the same characters and same concept as minecraft (though Grian, ren, gem and everyone like that are just human.)

Warnings- deathly redstone traps/contraptions, death, murder, deception, kissing (it's consensual), severed heads, violence, descriptive gore, mention of past arguments, toxic relationships, self doubt

"Here you go, love." You placed a small kiss on your husbands temple as you placed down his plate. "Thank you, dearest." Mumbo replied, quickly moving to catch you in a kiss. You giggled at his antics, kissing him back before going to grab your own plate of food. "Big day today?" You asked, listening in for the hum you'd get as a response.

"Indeed, a rather important group of clients are coming in today." He answered so causally it was believable. "Oh?" You inquired, sitting across from him on the quaint birch table. Sipping his tea, he smiled at you. You were always interested in his work, and he so wished he could tell you what he actually did as a living. But alas, he couldn't. After all the work he'd put into making sure your relationship was perfect, he couldn't scare you off now.

"Always curious." He chuckled and you smiled shyly back. "Well of course I'm curious, I like knowing what you're up to. You and Grian never tell me anything." You put on a fake pout at the end and Mumbo found it awfully amusing. "I will say this," Mumbo began, immediately catching your attention as you leaned forward, swallowing down the food in your mouth so you could respond afterwards. "I am quite excited for today, a redstone contraption I've been working on is finally being put to use." You beamed at him at this, you knew how important redstone was to him.

"That's amazing! I'm sure it'll impress the clients." Mumbo had a knowing smirk on his face, as though there was more to it than that, but you didn't like to pry. Not after the last argument that erupted from doing so. "Oh I'm sure they will be." Finishing his tea, he got up and threw on his suit jacket, perfecting his outfit in the mirror. You got up as well, draping your arms around his waist, slightly messing up the bottom half of his suit. He didn't care, that made it even more perfect.

"Will you be back tonight?" You asked, hoping he wouldn't have to do another night shift. "If everything goes to plan then I should be, yes." Turning himself around and wrapping an arm around your neck he pulled you into another kiss. He needed the motivation. "I'll see you tonight love." He said as he almost reluctantly slipped out of the embrace and to the door. "See you tonight. Bye!" You waved him off, watching as he got in that infamous black limousine.

You were both more than well off. Whatever career he had paid ridiculously well, but it did get a bit lonely with him always going out to work. You sighed as you laid your head in your arms, sitting back at the now lonesome table. It wasn't like Mumbo kept secrets from you or anything, he just kept his work life quiet, you knew everything else there was to know about him. You knew all his friends, you knew his favourite things, you knew the majority. But his work was so important to him, and you knew nothing about it at all. You'd brought up your concerns about it, but you were quickly shut down before you could ask any further questions.

The only people who didn't immediately shut down your concerns were Gem and Cleo, you often called them when they were on their breaks and you sometimes confided in them about your worries. They didn't tell you anything either, but they did sympathise with you, they always tried to reassure you and it was helpful.

You patiently awaited Gem's break, which was at 11:50am. You didn't have any friends of your own, the only people you talked to were Mumbo and his colleagues. You'd almost fallen asleep in your somewhat comfortable position on the table, when your phone alarm suddenly went blaring at you. You groaned at the irritating noise, checking what it said. 'Gem time!' You smiled, 11:50am.
