I did not wake up for a while. I don't recall how long it was. I probably was asleep for hours.
The next thing I remember seeing was this weird motion diagram. It was animated. There was a huge crowd behind what I interpreted as two people, who were yellow and pink. The two people held something blue. It was too small for me to understand what it was. Coming down straight at the two people was a giant brown thing. I didn't know what that was either.
Suddenly, I found myself in the scene. I saw a crowd with actual live people next to me. My sister stood on the other side of me. She looked determined about something. Then I realized she was staring at the giant brown thing, which, for one reason or another still wasn't a clear enough image for me to realize what it was. Then I realized that we were both grasping the blue thing. She was thrusting it in the air, dragging my hands along with it.
I had no idea what was going on. I had no clue why I was here or how I had gotten here. What about the cave-in?
I pondered this for some time when I heard a deafening noise. It sounded like a jet. Instead it seemed to be the brown thing. Then I heard a small, distant voice within the chaos.
"Are you ready?" My sister asked, as the brown thing was not more than a few feet away from us.
"What? Ready for what?" I asked, but she didn't seem to hear it.
What was she talking about? What had I missed? How long had it been since the cave-in? Had my sister done everything? What was the whole animated biz about?
Before I could find an answer to any one of these questions, the brown thing touched the tip of the blue thing.
Subsequently, there was a giant explosion.
Suddenly, my eyes opened. For a few seconds, I was in a state of alarm. Then I saw the cave again and eased up a little.
Now I knew I was still stuck in this stupid cave, but what about what I had just seen? I could have just concluded that it had been a dream and moved on, but the whole thing lingered in my mind, not wanting to let go, like someone who was about to fall down a cliff, and was only hanging thanks to his hand on the surface.
But this hand had to be particularly strong, or it probably wouldn't still be hanging, considering I was trying to use my sheer force of will to let it go.
I was so troubled by this dream I had just experienced that I hadn't noticed that my sister had been awake before me.
"You okay?" she asked, alarming me. I still hadn't noticed she was awake, so even the softest voice surprised me.
"Uh... yeah, sure," I replied with uncertainty in my voice.
"Okay, cause you were moaning in your sleep," she said.
This caught my attention. "Wait, what?"
"Yeah, you were saying words here and there, like what, ready, blue thing, brown thing..."
"Well, I did have this mega weird dream," I interrupted.
"Really? Well then, your dreams must be pretty vague. Seriously, you were not specific with your words at all."
"Well, it was a bit vague. I mean, I didn't realize what everything in it was or meant."
"Well, what was it?"
I'm not gonna bother telling you this whole process, because you read many details of it, of course, in my point of view, but that makes it virtually the same as my explanation.
Unless you really want me to.
Seriously? You do?
Fine.
"Well, first there was an animated motion diagram..."
My sister was about to interrupt, but I simply said, "Don't ask."
"It showed some people, some things, it was vague. Suddenly, I was one of the people. I along with someone else, who I found out was you, was holding a blue thing that didn't show up properly in my dream. Neither did some brown thing that was coming toward it. There was a huge crowd, you looked like you were about to do something big, you asked me if I was ready, I asked what you meant, you didn't hear..." I started gasping for breath.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Slow down, nobody's rushing you. Especially now that we're stuck in this cave," my sister pointed out.
"Fair enough," I managed. "So that was when the brown thing touched the tip of the blue thing, and there was an explosion. Then I woke up."
"Wow, that is a mysterious dream."
"I know. I hate cliffhangers!" I complained. "Well, unless it's a book series or a movie series or a TV series, basically anything that's eventually gonna continue, although, technically, you have to wait a while for those things, unless every book, movie, or episode is already out, so you won't have to wait, but it's still upsetting, especially when you have no idea if it's gonna continue," I kept on rambling without even noticing.
And I ran out of breath again. I took deep breaths for a few seconds.
"Yeah, the cliffhanger's mysterious and all, but I meant the dream as a whole! What does it mean? It can't just be senseless, or it wouldn't have seemed so lifelike, minus the animated part," my sister explained.
"Yeah," I agreed, having regained my breath. "But right now, that's the least of our worries," I said, looking around.
"I know. We have to save the world and everything, but first we have to get out of this cave somehow," my sister said.
But that was easier said than done.
