Marshall rang the bell. He heard a shrill voice of a young girl. In some seconds, a blonde girl opened the door. She was very slim, tall, with some freckles and pink cheeks. She was wearing a long, white T-Shirt with short, black shorts. She gasped with happiness and hugged her brother. Annie loved when Marshall would surprise her with unexpected visits.
-Here's your coca-Marsha;l gave a cup to her-I had bought one for me as well, but a dog jumped on me and spilled it. I don't want it anymore, though-he added when Annie wanted to say something.
-Come on in, you dumb boy-Annie giggled and shook her head.
Her apartment was very neat and organized, with white ceilings and beautiful pictures around. Annie loved painting. She was a philosophy student at university, but in her spare time, she loved drawing.
-So-Marshall sat on the couch- how's my little sister?
-Great! Doing amazing in University, liking my friend Steven a lot-she shrugged and laughed again.
-Steven, huh? The one who looks like a mix of young Leonardo Dicaprio and Johhny Depp right?
-Yeah, that Steven-Annie agreed.
-Well, I shall say you two have a chance. He's a good guy.
-Oh, dear god, my brother approved of my future boyfriend...
-So, you will confess?
-No, not yet. I'll wait for him.
-Playing hard to get? Nice!
The Broadfield siblings had totally different appearances. Annie was a copy of their blonde mother, while Marshall looked like their father. But their personalities and mindsets were quite similar.
-How are things in your life?-Annie asked.
-I am going on an interview tomorrow. In a new job.
-Why are you doing this? You are so intellectual, you could easily make a company of your own! Why work for someone else?
-I want to experience things, Annie-Marshall told her- I want to have enough knowledge to start my own company.
-But you are incredibly smart-Annie put her hair behind her ears.
-I just want to experience stuff-Marshall put a dot on the subject.
-Fine-Annie shrigged-And how are romantic things going on?
-Nothing new. Met a woman in the bar, asked for her number and hung out with her for a night...
-Enough details about that night! And?
-She annoyed me, so the next morning I told her I'd call but...
-Marshall! That is so not you! You never started those things with women from bars! That was your second time doing this! The one in high school was different, but this! You need to read "Catcher in the Rye" once again, my dear brother.
-I just...I was sad, alright? After Rose left me, I lost someone important in my life. I guess I wanted to meet a new woman and...Apparently I didn't...
-You are a good brother, Marshall. You're an amazing friend. And I am sure that you were a great partner for Rose too. But she was not meant for you, I suppose.
-I guess you're right, Annie-Marshall sighed.
Annie sipped some hot chocolate and smiled cunningly.
-Oh, lord, my brother is becoming a womanizer-she laughed.
-No way in the universe-he threw a pillow at her-Not me! Never!
-I know! You were just broken and it's okay. It's alright. Just don't do it again.
-You sound like mom-Marshall murmured and looked at his sister in a funny way.
-You...-Annie threw a pillow back at him-Shut up!
-You shut up-Marshall smirked.
-As if- Annie chuckled-Love you brother.
-Love you too, sis.
Marshall looked from the window and saw that the sky was full of clouds now. It would probably rain soon. Annie understood his thoughts and added:
-Stay here for a long time today. None of my friends are free now and I would prefer to have a board game night with my brother and cousins.
-You know I have to go to the interview tomorrow-Marshall closed his eyes.
-So what? I will call them right now and they will be here until eleven. Then you will go home and get some sleep, don't worry. And plus, you have to relax and chill a bit.
-So-Marshall smiled-are you calling Ronica, James, and Lucas?
Annie chuckled and grabbed her phone to call their cousins. James and Veronica were twins, and Lucas was their old brother. He was twenty-seven and he was an online game designer. Ronica and James were twenty-twos. They both studied at the same University as Annie.
After some minutes of talking, Annie said dramatically:
-Mr. Broadfield, Mr. Broadfield, and Miss Broadfield will be on their way in twenty five minutes.
-Fabulous. Absolutely majestic-Marshall added.
-Augh, I need to cook something before they'll come.
-Or-Marshall grabbed his phone-we can order something.
-Let us do both! Marshall-Annie acted like a leader of an indigenous people-order a pepperoni pizza and some doses of coca cola! And also order some desserts. I will make a salad and homemade tacos.
-Since when did you become a housewife-Marshall laughed.
-After you had a dream of you being it-she didn't like the joke-Now come! Help me! You are an expert in making tacos!
-I am coming-Marshal rushed from the sofa-where should we start from?
