It took them almost two days to get to Ohio and when they arrived, they had just finished eating. "How far away is this place?' Annabelle asked. Mark looked at the sign to see what town they were in.. they were in Logan, Ohio. "it is just near here." he notified her, glimpsing at Annabelle.
"But the only thing around here is the forest," she asked with a frown. "It is, but that's because that is where the building is. It's in the forest. They constructed it there so it stayed concealed by trees. So, it would be harder for people to find it." he said. "They also put some protection around the building," he added
Annabelle nodded a little bit and looked outside, soon seeing him driving into the forest. But, she was silent the remainder of the way, just thinking. This was a lot to handle. Her father looked over at his daughter but could tell how quiet she was, he reached over and patted her arm gently. "It'll be alright, Annie," he said softly.
Sighing, Annabelle looked over at him. "What if it isn't?" she asked.
"It will be," he told her again. "This location is safe for demigods like you. And you will meet new people there," he told her, attempting to make her feel slightly better. Annabelle just shrugged before she spoke, looking down at her hands. "But you won't be there.." she said quietly.
Mark gave a small nod. "I understand. But, we can write to each other. You can even call me whenever." he told her as he drove down a trail that was in the forest. The trail wasn't very big, so while he drove, the leaves from the branches of trees would hit and brush against the sides of the car. After a few more minutes or so, he finally pulled up to a building.
Once he parked and shut the car off, Annabelle unbuckled and opened the door before she got out of the car, shutting the door. She stood next to the car as she gazed up at the building. The building was large and made of red bricks, it had a dark red roof with windows all around. It had a big door in the front. As Annabelle looked at the building more closely, she could see how there were scorch marks on some of the bricks. There was even a garden against one side of the building, but she wasn't certain what they were growing but would assume it was vegetables.
"How did you learn about this place?" she asked, looking over at her father. Mark glanced over at his daughter before he spoke, "a few years ago, I had this dream one evening, it had what seemed like Ohio and showed this place. When I woke up, I was confused but I got up out of bed and went outside while you were still sleeping" he paused for a moment. "I had asked Demeter to come down, of course, I didn't even know if she heard or would come down. But she did. I questioned her regarding the dream, which I know your mother gave me that dream somehow. But she told me all about this place." he explained. Annabelle listened closely to her as she nodded at his words but before she could say anything she noticed a woman come out of the building.
The female had blonde hair pulled back into a braid that hung over her shoulder, blue eyes, and wore a dark red shirt with jeans that had tears in them. Stopping a few inches away from them, the woman smiled. "Hello! I am Rachel, I am the owner of this place." the woman said, smiling at Annabelle. "I am Mark and this is my daughter Annabelle." He said, introducing his daughter to the women. Rachel nodded, "Demeter has informed me she may arrive eventually." She told them.
Annabelle shared a little smile as she glimpsed around, she was curious about what Rachel said but figured she could question her about that later. Her attention shifted to her father hearing him speak. "I should get home, I just wanted to see that my daughter got here safely," he stated. Rachel nodded, "we will take good care of her. And you can come to visit when you are able to if you'd like, and you can write letters as well, we have a few demigods that drop mail off at the post office near the forest." she explained. Before the woman could say anything else, there was suddenly a roar in the distance, Annabelle spun to face it when she saw a few trees tipping over and winced as she heard the loud thud it created. But she even felt sad that the tree fell over, she always liked nature and was sad every time it was destroyed.
