Kara Jones (David's mother) POV

I had always wanted a daughter but after David's birth, I couldn't conceive again. No matter how hard we tried it didn't work out. After trying for years, I decided to adopt. Henry was against it. "No matter what, she still won't be my biological daughter." I gave up trying to have a daughter and focused on David.

Henry and I were on our way back from a business trip. We saw a car summersault and i got scared. We got out and went to the vehicle. We managed to bring them out and take them far away from the car before it exploded.

We called the ambulance and followed them to the hospital. The little girl caught my attention. She was very beautiful and she had a very long hair.

"Her parents didn't make it but the child is alive" the doctor said.

A sharp pain hit my chest. Not wanting to break down there, I left and went to the car. The driver was lost in thought and didn't notice me.

"Is anything wrong?" I asked. He looked at me startled.

"The people we helped are the Smith but I don't know about the girl" he said.

"How did you recognize them? They keep their life very private."

"I had an encounter with them once" the driver replied.

I was shocked. I told Henry what the driver said. We had them transferred to Smith Hospital.

"This girl here is Christie Smith, the only daughter of the Smiths. Thank you so much for not taking advantage of the situation" the doctor said.

The doctor insisted on dropping our contact just in case.

"That girl will be all alone" I said sadly. Henry sighed.

"Her parents' family will take care of her. I'm sure of it" Henry said.

Putting the incident behind our backs, we went on with our daily activities. Everything was fine until we got a call from the hospital.

On getting there, the doctor called us into his office for a discussion.

"Barr. Miller, the Smith lawyer will soon be here. We need your help" the doctor said.

"Our help? But we don't have anything to do with the Smiths. We witnessed the accident and brought them here." Henry said.

There was a knock on the door and a young man of about 40 walked in after the doctor told him to.

"Welcome Barr. Miller" the doctor greeted

"The Smiths made me promise that if anything happened to them, nothing must happen to their daughter. And that she'll remain anonymous to the world until she is twenty five years when she'll take over their legacy. Everything belongings to her but I cant hand it over to her till she's of age. She's too young to live alone so, we need a nice family who will take care of her until she's able to live on her own." Barr. Miller said.

I was beyond shocked. Henry and I exchanged looks getting an idea of where this was going.

"We need you to take her in for a while. Until she is 18 at least. I just want her to experience love from parent figures before she is forced to grow up." He continued.

"You don't even know us. How can you be so sure we won't maltreat her or do bad things her?" I asked confused.

The doctor smiled so did the lawyer. "We ran a background check on you and your family and I know you're good people. I know you won't take advantage of this situation because when you brought them in, you didn't take advantage of that. I appreciate." the lawyer said.

"What about other family members?" Henry asked.  The doctor and lawyer exchanged looks and the doctor nodded slightly.

"The accident wasn't an accident at all. It was a deliberate effort to wipe out the family. And until we find the culprit, we can't trust family or friends. Please, think of the little girl" the lawyer said.

"Can we think about this and get back to you?" Henry asked. They both nodded. We stood up to leave and shook hands.

"Doctor, how is she?" I asked. The doctor smiled.

"She's stable but unconscious. She hasn't opened her eyes since she got here" the doctor said and I felt sad.
