Chapter 13:

The rest of the week passed by, and I was wrong about Jesse. He stayed upset for the rest of the week. In fact, he got worse. He didn't shave, according to the stubble growing on his face.

He even stayed upset the next week too.

Other students started to realize it as well. As he walked by, I saw the stares going towards him.

He had basically separated himself from people.

I walk into school today, hoping for the other Jesse, the one I saw at the beginning of the year. I was wrong. The usual happened. He didn't say hi to me at our lockers and we didn't walk together to class.

I didn't know if he had a problem with me, or just a problem in general.

Was I doing something wrong that I didn't know of?

I walked to my locker after class, and I stood there, leaning against it. He came to his, and my eyes stayed locked on his face.

The bags under his eyes showed he didn't get much sleep. His attire today was a white t-shirt, probably the one he slept in, according to the many wrinkles, paired with baggy sweatpants.

He opened his locker, grabbing the stuff he needed. He knew I was there, but we didn't make eye contact.

I turned around to get my stuff, and we turned our heads towards each other at the same time, our eyes meeting.

I saw it in those dark brown eyes. The pain in them...The darkness...He wasn't okay.

I wished I could help him, but I didn't have the guts to ask what was wrong.

His eyes glaring at me were covered by a clear gloss. His pink lips opened up, making their way to say something. But they closed and Jesse didn't say a word.

We stared at each other for a couple more seconds.

Studying each other.

His eyes broke from my gaze as I continued to look at his beautiful face. He may have looked tired and all, but he was still Jesse Anderson.

This time something changed.

His body attitude.

It didn't show anger.

It showed sadness.

His slouched posture, and head down, along with his morning face and deep sorrowful eyes.

It was sadness.

Right before I was about to go to class, the loud speaker sounded, saying that they was an assembly to be taken place in the school gym for the seniors.

I put my things back into my locker and walked alone to the gym room.

I entered the large room, and scanned it to find Carly.

I saw her and took the seat next to her.

"Whats up Aubrey Bear?," Carly said, smiling.

"Nothing much," I answered, resting my head on her shoulder. "Why is there an assembly for us?," I asked, raising my eyebrows towards Carly.

"I don't know."

After she answered me Principal Edwards walk into the gym.

"Okay, everyone quiet down please," he said raising his hands, to get the attention of the people in the back. "In West Town High, as you all know, we usually have prom in May, but our graduation is earlier this year because it works out for most people. So to the senior class of 2015, you're prom will be on April 3rd. Thank you very much. Within this week, there will be more information about prom."
