"Yes, it was a cell phone and a backpack," Kev said walking back and forth as he talked to the representative from Uber. "We haven't heard from them since yesterday" she added. Kev nodded, "thank you" he said and hung up. Something was off and he couldn't pinpoint what it was.
"I hope that was a lead on the murders" Zander said as he entered the office and closed the door behind him. "No, I was just checking Faythe's phone and bag" he said as he put his phone back on the desk. "Just what I thought" Zander said as he forcefully put the files on his desk. "Can we have a moment of honesty?" Zander asked, Kev looked at him with surprise but nodded "you can always be honest with me" he said. Good, Zander thought. "We have more pressing issues than worrying about this girl's lost belongings," Zander said firmly. "But..." "I have found out what the witches are after and you are worried about that girl. You are our Alpha, focus on the pack's issues first" Zander snapped.
"It didn't cost anything to call and check on her things, Zander," Kev snapped. "This girl has been on your mind ever since you met her" Zander snapped. "I know my duties as the Alpha" Kev snapped "then act like it. Our members are scared and wondering when one of them or their family members will be next, it is your job to encourage them AND protect them" Zander snapped. Kev knew that he was right but it still made him angry. "There is something about her... I can't put my finger on it..." Kev turned and ran his fingers through his hair "it is best that you let it go or both of you will end up getting hurt" Zander said. Kev nodded slowly wondering what Zander meant by that. "What did you find out?" Kev asked, hoping to change the subject. "The witches need wolf hearts to break a spell," Zander said. Kev nodded "what spell?" Kev asked "a protection spell" "so they are looking for something? Or someone" Kev asked as he sat on his desk. "It seems so" Zander said, Kev could since Zander knew more than he was telling him. "Zander, is there something you're not telling me?" Kev asked, "I'm telling you what I know," Zander said. Lie, Kev thought. "We will talk about this later," Kev said. Zander nodded as he turned to leave. What was it that Zander didn't want him to know? He hated to think that he couldn't trust Zander; he trusted him all of his life.
Kara arrived at the News station, it was pretty easy to find. The double doors slid open and the person at the front desk greeted her. "Hello, welcome to Howling Peaks news" they said. "I am here because I have items belonging to a Faythe Faison?" she explained holding up the phone and backpack.
"What will you write for your article now?" Lexi asked, sitting in the chair across from her desk. "Maybe we can look at this from a different angle," Faythe said. "What do you mean?" Lexi asked "all of the victims were killed the same way... Their hearts were taken out... could be connected to a cult" Faythe said. "You really want to put that in your article?" Lexi asked, "there isn't much to go on right now" Faythe said "maybe you should try..." "Are you Faythe by any chance?" Faythe looked up to see an older lady. "Yes" Faythe said "oh wonderful, I found your items. I am sure you are missing them" she said. She lifted a phone and a small backpack. "Oh my God! Thank you" Faythe said as she stood, walked around the desk and took her phone and backpack from her. "Oh you are welcome" she said. "You didn't have to bring it all the way here, Teddy would have taken it at the front" Lexi said. "Well, I came back here and wanted to see the daughter of a dear friend of mine," she said. Faythe blinked in surprise "you knew my mom" Faythe said quickly. "Yes," she said with a smile. "I never got to meet her daughter," she said sadly. "You look like her alot actually" she said. "Who are you?" Lexi asked. The older woman gasped "oh where are my manners? I am Kara Winters" she said as she extended her hand to Faythe. Faythe shook her hand.
Kara could sense the magic flowing through her, she was definitely a half witch but something was keeping her magic at bay. "In return for bringing you back your belongings. Why don't I tell you about your family history?" Kara asked, she saw the curiosity in her eyes. "That would be amazing. Can we meet on my break?" she asked. "Certainly" Kara said as she left.
