-SIX-
Khalida was walking down a staircase by herself, having met up with Fluffy a little while back. The others had run off, promptly ignoring her warnings of 'If the staircase moves you're done for'.
Her feet tapped against the stone floors as she tried remembering how to get to Gryffindor Common Room. She realised that she was on the third floor a moment too late, as Mrs. Norris had already caught her. Looking around to make sure no one was there, Khalida allowed herself to grow her wolf's fangs and bared them at the red-eyed cat, growling viciously. Lilith, who was just next to the girl, nearly yowled in fright upon hearing such a chilling snarl.
Mrs. Norris, however, audibly yowled in fright and dashed off. Khalida's sharp ears caught the sound of Harry, Ron, and Hermione talking, and immediately followed their voices.
They were in the forbidden part of the third floor, going inside a room.
She slipped inside, quietly, standing right behind Harry, with Lilith waiting patiently at her feet.
A loud scream came from the trio, as a large, three-headed-dog growled at them. Khalida leapt in, having shifted shape already, with the hair on her neck bristling, and her lips curled back into a snarl. She barked and growled at Fluffy a few times, till the dog calmed down and backed off.
Turning back to her normal shape, Khalida pulled out three treats from her pocket and offered it to the three heads, saying, "That's a good boy." She scratched their heads before turning around, to see that the trio had vanished.
Rolling her eyes and scoffing softly, Khalida exited the floor, going on her way to the Gryffindor Common Room. She turned down the corridor and slammed into Malfoy. "Kia." He said, "May I have a word?"
Shocked at how formal he was being, Khalida nodded, not trusting herself to speak.
"I talked and apologised to Potter." Sighed the boy, saying Harry's last name as it if burned him. "And I want to apologise to you about how I was acting. So, I'm sorry for being an absolute idiot earlier today and for being snarky when you were reprimanding me. I know I deserved it"
Shocked, Khalida replied, "It's alright, Draco. Just...don't be that mean in the future, okay?"
"So...are we friends again, now?" He asked, hopefully.
She poked her friend's side and smiled, "We never stopped being friends, silly. Now, come on. Let's sneak into the kitchen and get some treats from the house elves."
She took him by the hand and the pair ran down to the kitchens, where they found one of the nicer elves, Pipney, allowed them to take a whole lot of treats from the pantry, before shooing them off politely.
Draco and Khalida laughed, as they found an empty classroom to sit in, talking and laughing as they exchanged stories.
That night, Harry, Hermione, and Ron all interrogated her about where she'd been. "Not anywhere in particular." She said.
Thankfully, her friends were too scared to ask her about her sudden transformation back in Fluffy's room.
She then proceeded to write a letter to Remus.
Dear Papa,
Quite a bit has happened since I arrived, actually. I made a whole group of friends! I've got a friend named Harry Potter, another named Ron Weasley, who's the son of the Molly Weasley you were talking to on the platform, and a very interesting girl named Hermione Granger! They're in Gryffindor, with me, and I do love it quite a bit! I've made a few Slytherin friends, but honestly, I'm mostly enjoying the company of a boy named Draco Malfoy. He's not always nice to everyone, but he sure is nice to me. He's one of those boys who just need someone to be genuinely kind towards him.
Well, he did bully a timid young boy, Neville Longbottom, kind of indirectly. Poor Neville got a broken wrist after he fell off his broom, but Draco decided to be an idiot and thought it'd be funny to play with Neville's dropped Remembrall.
Harry's a seeker now, apparently. After he chased Draco, he caught the Remembrall like Roberta Griffins in last year's world cup! Speaking of which, could you send me my Quidditch Through the Ages in your next parcel? I know it's a frighteningly old copy, but I do like reading it. Plus, I despise the condition of the storybooks in our school library so I think that explains an awful lot.
I do miss you a whole lot, Papa. I've made sure to keep your brown coat in its best condition, but I still wear it whenever I can. I think you'll be happy to hear that the little canine situation is under control, too.
I can't wait to receive more of your letters! I look forward to your reply to this one.Yours lovingly,
LidaKhalida folded up the letter and put it in an envelope, writing out her home address on the front in her neat print writing. "Minnie, I'm off to send a letter. You coming with me?" She asked.
"You could use Hedwig, if you'd like." Harry offered. Khalida smiled and whistled for Hedwig, who alighted on the table, just barely missing the candle there. Once the letter had been tied to the snowy owl's leg, and the instructions had been given, Hedwig soared off into the night.
"Well, I'm off to bed." Said the girl. "Goodnight, all of you."
As she lay in bed that night, she couldn't help but try to brush off the feeling that something bad was about to happen...
