-ELEVEN-
Khalida was absolutely shocked to see her mother on their snow-covered porch, frowning slightly. Maria spoke curtly, "Remus."
"Uh...come in, please. It's frightfully cold out there." Remus coughed, allowing her in. Khalida shrank away from her mother, scowling so fiercely that her father had to pat her arm reassuringly.
"What brings you here, Maria?" Asked Remus as he pulled out a chair to allow her a seat. How is he still so polite towards her, Khalida thought, after all she's done to him?
"I'm here to discuss our daughter." Said Maria curtly. Remus frowned, "I'm afraid the term 'our' cannot be used in terms of Khalida. She is my daughter, Maria. Not ours."
She ignored his comment and continued, "I want her to continue her normal schooling. Not this wishy-washy rabbit magic nonsense. So, I will be taking her from your custody and placing her in mine."
Remus leaned forward, his fingers interlaced so tightly that his knuckles went white. "Maria Annabelle Robinson," his voice was colder than the frost outside. "I have reminded you time and again, that once the divorce and custody papers were signed in both muggle and wizarding court, all rights towards Khalida were given to me."
"And I don't want to go with you." Khalida spat, disgusted.
"Lida, my love, you may stay in this room, but no interrupting." Remus warned, but his tone was gentle. Khalida frowned and mumbled a 'yes papa' before she picked up Lilith in her arms, holding the kneazle close to her whilst both her parents discussed.
"Why now, Maria?" Asked Remus. "Why, when for the last seven years you have been a ghost in her life, have you come back?"
"Because, you see..." Maria inhaled deeply, trying to collect herself, "I need her. She is my daughter. I gave birth to her. I--I love her."
"The option for shared custody vanished the day you signed her over to me." He said, curtly.
Maria glared at him, "You heartless man! I am being civilised here, trying to reason with you as to why I'd like to return to London with Khalida, but you are trying to keep her, like a selfish person, in this hellhole of a place?!"
Khalida felt her brain explode as she leapt forward, "Don't you dare call my father heartless and selfish, mother! He is anything but that! If anything, you are heartless and selfish!"
"Lida, please--" Remus put up his hand to try and calm his daughter down, but she snapped, "No, Papa! She's not allowed to disrespect you in this way, especially when it's about me, someone you have sacrificed everything for!"
Maria was shocked, but nevertheless managed to speak, "I think I will remove myself from here I--"
"This is just like you, Maria!" Remus frowned, "Walking away like a coward when things get difficult. You did that with Khalida, and now you're doing it again."
"I know where I'm not wanted, Remus!" The woman snapped at him, standing up.
"You should've known that the moment you stepped into the house!" He snapped back.
"This isn't over, Remus John Lupin." Snarled Maria. "I'm taking the girl back if it's the last thing I do."
"I'd like to see you try, Maria Annabelle Robinson." Remus replied. "Now, get out of my house before I make you."
"Pathetic." Scoffed the woman. "Good day, and have a happy Christmas, you miserable freaks."
"Miserable freaks is one thing I'd like to call you, ma'am," Khalida rolled her eyes. "Good day and good bye."
Once Maria had disappeared into the snow outside, and the door had been shut, locked, and bolted, Remus looked at his daughter who asked, "She's not going to take me to that muggle London, is she, papa?"
Remus hugged his daughter close, kissing her head as he whispered, "No, my love. I will not let her."
--Time Skip--
It had already been three days since the little disruption with Maria. Things were back to normal.
"Are you excited to get back to school?" Asked Remus as he and Khalida made a snowman outside.
"Yes! I can't wait to see Hermione, Ron, Harry, Dean, Seamus..." She rattled off names she could remember till her cheeks tinted pink with the energy she was using. "It's going to be such fun!"
"No doubt, my love." He laughed. She giggled as he placed a small pile of snow on her head, for it tickled a little. "It's getting a little too nippy, isn't it? Let's go on inside. I'll whip us up some hot chocolate."
Both of them dashed back in, to see Lilith snoring peacefully in front of the fire. The warmth of it radiated throughout the whole room, and she sighed in relief when the radiating heat of it hit her cold body. She transformed quick as light, and curled up as close as she could without singing her whiskers.
She caught the smell of hot chocolate with marshmallows and immediately switched back, sitting up. "One hot chocolate for my little girl." Remus chuckled, sitting next to her.
"I'm not that little, papa." She chided playfully, sipping on the warm drink.
"Alright, my big girl, then." He smiled. "Now, drink up. Then we'll play another bout of chess."
