11th October 2022

How can you research something about the future?
It's simple, really.
You just can't.
You can assume, but you can't know.
Ironic again, isn't it?
The fact that she knew things about the future and didn't have to assume them.
But she only knew one side of the story.
Almost nothing.
She needed someone, someone who knew another version of the story.

25th October, this year
Are you planning on loosing something that day?

She needed him.
They were in this together.
And they were bound to get things right.
That's what she thought.
And she hoped that he'd see it that way too.

Her finger hovered over the 'call' button.
One click and he'll be on the other side of the line.
One click and she'd have to use her chance to talk some sense into one of the most stubborn young men she knew.
Clement.
He probably knew more than she knew.
 Forget that.
He certainly knew more than anyone else did.

One ringtone.
The second one.
The third one.
Fourth one.
Fifth one.

Maybe this was a very bad idea.
Perhaps it was.
She could always stop this.

Sixth one.
Seventh one.

Just stop the call.
Pretend that this was just a mistake.

Eight one.

The wrong number.
A simple mistake.

"Yes?"

No going back anymore.

"Clement? Hey, it's Za-"
"Ah, it's you, amata. How do I deserve such an honor?"
"Clement? I think... I know we've only met twice, but I think I might need your help."
"What kind of help?"
"It's just... I think you know more than I do and I really want to figure this out. You kno-"
"Just calm down, amata. It's not like you don't know me! I mean we're old... friends. So, just tell me. How can I, the oh so low Clement Blython, help you?"

His voice was light and filled with amusement.
He was trying to conceal his startled and delighted state.
He was trying so hard.
He didn't expect her to call.
He felt his heartbeat miss a beat, taking his breath away.
And that only because he heard her voice.
Because he heard the soft and nervous sound of her voice.
He already knew why she asked for his help.
They were on the same side here, of course she'd ask him.
But why wouldn't he take the opportunity?
Tease her.
Make her boil.
See how far he can take it until she switches.
See how she looks in every state of emotion.
Every single one except one.

"I think you might have guessed why I'm calling?"
"I might and I also might not. So, why won't you tell me?"
"25th October 2022. That's why I'm calling, guessed that?"
"Guessed? No. Knew, I knew you'd want to talk to me about that one day. I mean, we're kind of on the same side of the bridge and it probably will be our job to get Aspen over the bridge."
"I guess you're in then?"
"Like I have a choice. Graveyard, his future place... Only if we mess up of course."
"See you in thirty minutes?"
"I'll be there in twenty. Bring the notebook, you'll need it. Trust me, amata."
