Junkyu sat on the park bench on his own, watching little kids play with no worries about the world. It was late afternoon. The pink-orange glow of the sunset fell on the kids' innocent faces. Junkyu's lips spread in a smile of adoration. As he smiled, the corner of his eyes formed wrinkles, an obvious effect of age. There was a faded scar on his left cheek, sharp and thick. And his lower lip was slightly black in the middle. Constant reminders of the once traumatic past of his life.Speaking of the past, there was a small boy with a bunch of red roses, trying to sell them all before going home. Junkyu stared at the roses, they reminded him of one cold blooded murderer. Junkyu looked at the sky, then at the trees, birds. He couldn't forget that day. Till date, the memories haunted his sleep in fragments. Junkyu sighed. There was no escape. He was stuck with the aftereffect of the trauma Jihoon left on him.
The small boy walked to him. Junkyu smiled as he watched the lively kid showing a pretty, full bloomed rose to him.
Junkyu took it. He had no intention to buy a rose, since he had no one to give it to. But he couldn't say no to the cute boy.
When Junkyu was busy with his wallet, he saw the boy skipping away. Junkyu called him from behind, "Hey, kid! Won't you take your money?"
The boy gave a toothless grin, then pointed at a nearby tree. Well, not really at the tree, but the guy leaning on it.
Junkyu saw a man in a silver overcoat on that chilly afternoon. He had a silver hat covering half of his face, only his lips were on display. When Junkyu let his eyes fall on him, he smiled.
Junkyu had no problem recognizing that smile. The cold, shivering smile that took so many nights' worth sleep from him. The damn smile that he wished never to see.
The man walked away soon, leaving Junkyu with a terrible fear. All these years later, the past was gonna repeat itself. Junkyu was in a loop, a twisted, never ending cycle that connected him with a man obsessed with roses, or more precisely, roseate cheeks.
