Toast

It all started with the last bit of bread in the bag. You see, New Mexico just wanted a nice piece of toast slathered in strawberry jam to help him get through the day.
His plans were interrupted when another state grabbed the bak at the same time he did.
New Mexico recognized those hands. "Hey Nevada."
The battle-born state looked up at him from his phone. "Oh, sup dude."
They stood there for a minute, both not really wanting to let go of the bag.
"So uh, you want toast too?" Nevada slipped his phone onto his pocket, his other hand tightening on the bag.
"Yeah." New Mexico shrugged. "Dixie just went to the store to buy s'more. So. Since I saw it first, I should get it."
Dixie walked into the kitchen in a holey t-shirt and sweatpants, rubbing his tired eyes as he tried to wake up. He grunted at them as he grabbed a mug and poured a heaping load of coffee into it, and wandered past them again, probably to watch TV or something.
As soon as he left, Nevada tackled New Mexico. "YOU DIRTY LIAR!"
The two wrestled for the piece of bread, and New Mexico swung, catching Nevada square in the stomach. He wheezed, and grabbed New Mexico's headband to pull down over his eyes.
Nevada kicked the state of enchantment away and grabbed the bag of bread. New Mexico lunged out and grabbed Nevada's ankle, and Nevada hit the ground hard.
New Mexico jumped on top of the other state and started throwing punches (most of which Nevada blocked), profanities slipping off his tongue in English and Spanish.
New Mexico was suddenly lifted off of his brother by a very strong arm. Another brother of his glared down at the fighting pair.
"What in the world are you doin'?" Texas sounded a bit tired as he set New Mexico down. "I come in here lookin' for breakfast and I find you two fightin'."
  "Well Nevada-"
  "No New Mexico-"
  "He started it-"
  "NOT TRUE-"
Texas grabbed them both by their shirt scruffs and yanked them back. "Oh nevermin'. Just take it outside. Y'all know where the bread is?"

  Dear Flamingo943,

I really had fun with this one. Thank you for the wonderful idea, and I hope New Mexico slugging Nevada for some toast entertained you.

  Have a wonderful evening,
  Blue
