After the presentation, That night, Rafiki meditates inside in his tree, with fireflies flitting around him. The bugs illuminate Rafiki's face, and he opens his eyes. He watches as some insects gather on a branch of his tree. He collects more insects and adds them to the pile. He then blows dust over the insects, who scuttle away to reveal the outline of a lion cub head.
Rafiki then said to himself: "*speaks Xhosa*. [Rafiki smears his thumb over the painted cub's forehead, leaving behind a red mark.] Simba. [The mandrill then climbs to the top of his tree.] *shouts in Xhosa* [He lifts his arms joyously.] *laughs*."
The next morning, Simba, now a cub, looks outside the pride lands. With an excited look, he races into the den, where the pride is sleeping.
"Dad! Dad." Shouted Simba to his father, dodges around the lionesses, jostling them, and then jumps on his father, repeating the same words, over and over again.
Sarabi then said calmy: "Your son is awake."
"Before sunrise, he's your son." Mufasa said.
Simba then yelled to his father: "Dad! Come on, Dad." The young cub tugs Mufasa's ear, but loses his grip and tumbles out of view. he then headbutts Mufasa's face. "You promised!"
The Lion King then sleepily opens one eye and saw Simba glared at him. "Okay, okay. I'm up, I'm up."
"Yeah!" Simba then races away excitedly, while Mufasa yawned as the couple got up and went to the young prince. Simba skips out of the den, with his parents emerging shortly afterward. The young cub bounces up to Sarabi and rubs against her leg affectionately. Sarabi gives his rump an encouraging nudge and watches, smiling, as Mufasa and Simba begin to ascend Pride Rock.
"Look, Simba. Everything the light touches is our kingdom." Mufasa began, as the sunrise began on the new day of the pride lands.
Simba asked to his father: "You rule all of that?"
"Yes." Mufasa answered. "But a king's time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. One day, Simba, the sun will set on my time here and will rise with you as the new king."
"All of this will belong to me?" Simba asked curiously.
"Everything." Mufasa replied.
Simba then said to himself: "Everything the light touches. What about that shadowy place?"
"That's beyond our borders. You must never go there, Simba." Mufasa warned his son.
"But I thought a king can do whatever he wants." Simba replied.
Mufasa then said. "While others search for what they can take, a true king searches for what he can give."
"There's more?" Simba exclaimed.
Mufasa laughed proudly, and then the two lions then walked around the pride lands.
Mufasa then said: "Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance. As king, you need to understand that balance and respect all the creatures, from the crawling ant to the leaping antelope."
Simba then asked his father: "But, Dad, don't we eat the antelope."
Mufasa replied about the connection to the Circle of Life by saying: "Yes, Simba, but let me explain. When we die, our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass. And so, we are all connected in the great Circle of Life."
Just then, Zazu came into view. "Sire!" Zazu said to Mufasa.
Mufasa then replied: "Morning, Zazu."
"Checking in with the morning report!" Zazu said.
Mufasa: "Fire Away."
Zazu said: "Well! The buzz from the bees is that the leopards are in a bit of a spot."
"Oh Really?" Mufasa asked.
"And the baboons are going ape over this. " Zazu continued. "Of course, the giraffes are acting like they're above it all."
While Zazu was talking about the morning report, Mufasa and Young Simba couched to the ground.
Mufasa whispered: "Stay low to the ground."
"I got it." Simba replied quietly.
As Zazu was talking about the report he saw, unbeknownst to him, Simba was slowly reaching to the hornbill. And then... Simba jumped on Zazu in suprise attack. Zazu screamed in a comical way.
Mufasa laughed at his son was having fun, and said: "That's very good!"
Then Simba went to his father, as Zazu replied in anger: "Come on! It's the news!"
Just then, Mole popped out of the ground, and then said: "Zazu!"
"Yes!" Zazu asked to his close friend.
The mole then replied: "Sir! News from the underground!"
As Mufasa then said to his son, after teaching pouncing leason: "Now, this time–"
Just as Mufasa was about to say something, Zazu shouted: "Sire! Hyenas in the Pride Lands! They're on the hunt!"
"Where's Sarabi?" Mufasa asked.
Zazu then said in worried: "She's leading the charge."
"Zazu, take Simba home." Mufasa commanded to his friend, and rushed off.
"Awww, Dad! let me come! I can help!" Simba asked.
Mufasa then warned: "No, son. You stay with the other cubs!" He then storms off, leaving Simba and Zazu behind.
Simba then stalks off, saying: "Pah! I never get to go anyway."
"Oh, young master, one day, you will be king." Zazu calmly said to the young prince. "Then you can chase those slobbering, mangy, stupid poachers from dawn until dusk." When they return to the pride rock, Zazu then landed on the rock, were there are more cubs playing with their mothers, watching their cubs. (Two of the cubs are brown, and one lion cub is tan.) "Here we are. Now, you go along. Play with the other cubs." Zazu said, and flies off.
After the short experiance with his father, the prince then walked up to meet his Uncle, Scar (or Askari), who was prowling along a rock ledge. After the talk with Uncle Scar, who said a secret place (The Elephant Graveyard, were Shenzi's clan and Scar are living), Simba then went to his best friend, Nala, who was also born after presentation, with no sign of her father.
Simba greeted Nala, who is having a bath time by her mother, Sarafina "Nala! Come on. We have to go."
"Where?" Nala asked.
"The watering hole." Simba replied happily.
But then Sarafina said: "Simba, she's having her bath."
"And it's time for yours." Sarabi said, as she picked up her son to cleaning up.
Simba grunted, despite his struggles: "Mom! I can do it myself!"
Sarabi chuckled: "Hold still."
After Sarabi cleaning her son, Simba sighed and said: "Come on, Mom! See? All clean! Can we go? There's no hyenas. You just chased them all off."
"Just to the watering hole and no further. And stay downwind." Sarabi said her advie. Simba then nodded.
Nala then asked her mother: "Uh, Mom? Can I go with Simba?"
"Hmmm. What do you think Sarabi?" Sarafina asked her friend.
Sarabi then agreed, as the two cub bounded away, but then: "And one more thing. Zazu will be going with you."
The two cubs halted and asked: "Zazu?!"
"Zazu goes, or you don't." Sarabi asked. Reluctantly, Simba and Nala turn and walk away, as their mothers watch them leave. Just then, Sarabi asked Zazu to watch the two cubs, and he agreed and flew off.
