We run through the woods, barely understanding a thing, we are just trying to get away from whatever just happened. Octavia and Monty run up front while Finn and Clarke are behind me.
"Clarke! Come on" I hear Finn shout out, but I don't stop.
we run through every obstacle, uneven ground, past trees, the sound of my own heartbeat becoming louder, and our feet crunching the leaves beneath.
I am about to catch up to Octavia and Monty, but that idiot trips, nearly making me fall over too.
"Monty. Come on! We got to go" I hear Finn say I look down at Monty, and I quickly try to help him up along with Octavia. "Monty, get up!" Octavia adds
it wasn't until now that I notice bones spread around, we all see it, we all know that it was a human, but only because of the ribcage and spine laying there served on a platter for us. We all stood in silence looking at the scene.
"Who are they?" Finn says interrupting the eerie silence.
"Obviously not us, so let's get away" I shrug my shoulders, I'm stating the obvious, I want to get away from here.
Clarke picks something up from beside my feet. a skull and I realize it might not have been a human after all. it looks different, I take the skull from Clarke and examine it quickly.
"What are they" Clarke corrects Finn's question.
"The radiation, this one must've been a human affected by the radiation," I tell them.
"We are so screwed". Octavia reacts, all eyes go to Octavia and I quickly shove the skull into my bag.
"yeah so let's get away from he-" I get cut off by a Distant scream. Jasper... he's alive, and I left him? I left my best friend. my stomach churns in knots.
"Jasper. He's alive." Clarke realizes and we both sprint the way back we just came from, followed by everyone else. we almost arrived at the scene where we saw Jasper get hit.
"Clarke, wait. Wait! Wait. Stay out of the trees" Finn warns her. What about me? where is my warning? the audacity.
I look around expecting to find Jasper, alive, but there is nothing, not him or any evidence of him ever being there.
"He was right there" Finn is just as baffled as me
"Not anymore" I snap at him, I am aware that he doesn't deserve that, but I am just frustrated and concerned for Jasper, my head isn't exactly in the right frame of mind
"No. Where is he?" Monty looks at me in disbelief and places my hand on his shoulder
"They took him" Clarke answers.
I look Monty in the eye and make somewhat a promise "we will find him", I don't know if my attempt at reassuring him helped, but he seems calmer, I know he trusts me, so I can't fail.
we make our way back to where the dropship landed, all the samples I took lay heavy in my bag, and to add to that the ground is as uneven as Pike's beard. I doze off and just hear talking, I don't know what Clarke has been talking about the whole way, but she hasn't stopped talking with Collins, and Collin flirting with Clarke, Octavia flirting with Finn has just been going on my nerves.
"Everything alright?" Monty asks me. I sigh as a response and wait for a second to figure out an answer.
"I just didn't think I would end up here"
Monty lets out a laugh
"to be honest, before you got arrested, I believed that we 3 would grow old together, ending up with you and me married, and Jasper would fall for a random brunette" I look at Monty as the last 2 sentences left his mouth, me and him married? I knew he had a crush on me, but not enough to imagine a future together.
