chapter 16

"Catherine called me this morning, said she was coming over"

"why, is everything okay?" Andrew asks his mum as they prepare breakfast for the day.

Luke still wasn't back yet, they had notified the police the day before but they also didn't have any feedback yet.

Catherine is their aunt from their father's side, she actually lives in another city and she hasn't seen the family since the whole family problems started. Before everything, she used to come over at Christmas to spend time with the family but not anymore, it wasn't because of the fact that her brother already divorced her sister-in-law but because she had been angry at the whole situation and after trying her best to settle it all, it didn't so she had withdrawn from the family.

"she said she just wanted to see everyone"

"does she know about Luke?" "yes, she does but she didn't have much to say."
Andrew was missing his brother a lot and things haven't really been the same since that night.

Luke's friend had come around earlier to ask for him but he had told him that luke had traveled somewhere for a while. The boy did look worried.

A few hours later there's a knock on their door and Paige stands up to get it,

"aunt Catherine, welcome. Luke?!"

"can you let us in girl?" their aunt says to the shocked girl.

"um, yes ma'am"

At the mention of Luke, the whole family came rushing down the stairs.

"Luke, where have you been? Why are you coming with you aunt, what happened?" their mother asks as she embraces her son.

In tears she asks him, "how have you been?"

"fine mom" he answers quietly.

"he needs to rest, let him go up to his room" their aunt speaks from the chair she was sitting.

Not a minute after, luke goes up to his room and he avoids eye contact with his siblings.

"we need to talk"

Luke's pov

I really didn't want to come back.

My aunt knew because she had told me earlier that it was wise to come back, she said I couldn't run or stay away forever.

After all, they were still my family.

She is right.

A lot happened since that night.

Message notifications come in as I switch on my phone, It had been off since that night.

I felt sort of bad because I knew mason would have been worried and also would have wanted to call me but I didn't want any calls or messages from my family so I had switch off the phone.

I look through all the messages and there are messages from mason and mira.

Oh wow

Mason sent a lot, and I mean a lot of text messages, he also said he came yesterday and he was sad I didn't tell him anything and I felt bad.

We were also supposed to have our sleepover but I had ruined it, I really hope we would have another chance someday.

A few seconds later, his call comes in.

"oh my goodness luke, where have you been ?" a smile stretches across my face as I hear his voice, I really missed him.

"hey mason, sorry, how are you?"

"why do you sound so tired, what's wrong? Did something happen?"

"no, just stuff, I just got back home and I'm kinda tired"

"ohh, sorry I called so fast, you haven't been reachable and I was so worried. Uh, go rest up hmm. Just make sure you text me later or something"

"hmm, uh. Do you wanna meet up at the park this evening?"

"sure, no problem. Five?"

"okay, thank you mason"

Tired, that's how I felt.

I felt so empty and alone. I didn't even know who I was anymore.

I knew deep down that my life wasn't the same anymore since that night.

It wasn't better, it was worse.

And it really scared me.

It scares me.

what do you guys think happened all this time Luke was missing and what do you think will happen tonight?

i really like that Luke now trusts Mason and i truly like their friendship.
