Into the Depths... AU Ninjago FanFiction

Chapter 5

I groaned from the overwhelming drowsiness. I rubbed my head (which was hurting so much that I couldn't think for too long without it spiking pain) trying to wake myself up more so I don't doze off again. I cracked open my eyes, blinking several times to allow my brain to register all the light, to see what was going on. I felt my left ear, thankfully my communicator was somehow still secure. I took it out, hoping that it wasn't too water-logged. I inspected it thoroughly, it didn't look too damaged so I stashed it in my hidden pocket - out of sight. I was still trapped in this bubble, however, but everything outside it was different! I was in this room that was covered in pearlescent algae and had everything that you'd find in your typical bedroom.

 A silver chest of drawers cluttered with trinkets of all sorts; a full length mirror with starfish and shells along the rim; a work station which was also cluttered with all sorts of gadgets and gizmos; a large aquamarine bed; bookcases filled with various books on history and fantasy and whatnot.

What intrigued my curiosity was the wall covered in photos of me and the others. The weird thing was that she was in most of them, but she wasn't in the stuff she was wearing now. She wore a grey ninja uniform with her black hair tied back, these must've been taken before she had her hair done because there was no trace of blue in her hair whatsoever. "How can these photos exist if I don't even know this person?" I muttered to myself looking down to find that I was still in my uniform as the door opened silently.

In swam the mermaid who knocked me out, kidnapped me and took me to wherever this was. "Hey, you're awake." She said as she swam toward my bubble prison. I ignored her, looking over at the picture wall. She followed my gaze to the wall and tensed, like something bothered her about them. Not that I cared, what I cared about was getting back to my friends. "Here," She swam over and slipped a plate of food through the bubble, which didn't burst like normal bubbles do. Instead it manipulated itself around the shape of the plate fully absorbing it before opening a hatch for me to take it.

I shook my head, "Not hungry." I replied tartly, shoving the plate back through.

"You need to eat something, Kai." She said with concern.

"You act like you care about me, but one thing is clear, we barely know each other!" I retorted. She winced at what I'd said. "And another thing, what is with all the photos on that wall?" I asked,  gesturing toward the photo-littered wall. "Why do you have photos of me and my friends? Are you a stalker, or something?" I pressed on.

"That is none of your concern!" She snapped turning away from me as a guard came swimming in (he also had a fishtail instead of legs) turning to look at my captor. 

"Is the prisoner bothering you, Princess?" He asked giving me a cold stare which he quit after she gave the guard a look.

"Princess?" I questioned scoffing at the idea that I was in an underwater kingdom.

"He is our guest. Not a prisoner." She shot back at the guard, completely ignoring my question. "He will not be treated as horribly as you treat the others."

"Others? Who else do you have in jail here?!" I demanded. She looked at me over her shoulder once more before dismissing the guard. "Damn you, princess, answer me!" I yelled fiercely. What if they'd captured the others? I had to get out of here. NOW!

"I know you think we have you're friends here, but we don't, and if want to talk to me at least say my name. . ." She faced me looking all serious again.

"Which I didn't get after to did something to me, causing me to black out." I cut her off from finishing her sentence.

"Fine! You wanna know my name?" She replied impatiently. "My name is Nya." She said before swimming out of the room.

                                    Meanwhile at the monastery...

Everyone was brainstorming ideas about how to launch a rescue, when they knew so little about this place under the ocean. "What about sending my robot friend to do some recon?" Zane asked producing a lifelike robot angelfish. 

"I thought you were still building it?" Jay said gawking at the fish-bot.

"I was," Zane admitted. "But I finished it before Kai went to the docks yesterday evening."

"What are we waiting for?" Lloyd exclaimed excitedly, gingerly taking the fish from Zane. "Let's do some recon!" He said running to the docks to plant the remote controlled fish-bot. 

After planting the fish in the ocean and racing back to join the others, Lloyd saw everyone gathered around the monitor. The screen turned on. 

"The cameras in the fish-bot were activated." Cole said noticing the seaweed and coral as the fish bot swam.

"The fish-bot?" Jay questioned giving his best friend a strange look.

"What? We don't have a name for the little guy so until we do, I'm gonna call our new friend the fish-bot." Cole answered. They all stayed silent as they watched the fish-bot swim towards Kai's location.

It reached the 20th mile to the southeast when they found this sky blue city sitting right under the ocean. There were buildings of all shapes and sizes. Shops had massive billboard displays and right smack-dab in the middle of it all, was a multicoloured castle that shimmered in different shades of purple. 

"Kai's signal is coming from that castle." Zane said pointing to the colossal palace on screen. "We have to proceed with caution, remember, we have no idea what these people are like or how they'll react to a talking fish."

"Wait," Lloyd interrupted, "Does that mean. . ."

"Yep!" Jay answered finishing Lloyd's trail of thought. "When we find Kai, we can talk to him."

Everything depends on this little machine to find our friend. Lloyd thought, hoping that Jay was wrong about Kai being tortured by that thing ! 

The ninja kept quiet as their little friend swam toward the palace as fast as its tiny fins would carry it.

The fish-bot arrived at the outer skirts of the palace, peeking through the window before slipping though the gap. It swam for a good few minutes, before retreating quickly as a pair of guards swam around the corner. "So what do you think about the new prisoner?" Guard 1 asked.

"You mean the one in the bubble?" Guard 2 answered as the first one nodded. "I dunno, I say let the queen deal with him, then do what she does best before shipping him back to whatever hole he crawled out of." They laughed cruelly passing the fish-bot without noticing it.

"What did they mean 'let the queen do what she does best' ?" Cole questioned looking at the others.

"We're they talking about Kai?" Lloyd asked a second after Cole.

"I'm not sure... but we have to find where they're keeping Kai. Now!" Zane answered as he pushed a button on the panel, then everything turned a deeper blue showing the schematics of each room outlined in white. When another came swimming up the hall, they saw it in an orangey- yellow colour scheme.

"X-ray vision!" Jay exclaimed, staring at Zane in surprise. "You put a lot of work into this thing huh, Zane?"

Zane shrugged. "Just a little feature I finished installing before we started our search. Thought it might be useful."

The fish-bot looked towards the ceiling with it's x-ray vision. It looked around upwards for some time before finding another heat signature in one of the bedrooms. The person seemed to be trapped in a sphere-like object.

"That has to be Kai!" Lloyd said as hope crept into his voice. "Zane, can you get the robot-fish to that room?" He asked turning to his robotic friend.

Zane nodded as he guided the fish-bot upstairs, hiding every so often to avoid compromising the mission. The fish arrived outside the door. 

"If this is right, Kai should be on the other side of this door." Jay said pointing to the door as Zane deactivated the x-ray vision.

"Come on then, lets see our friend." Lloyd said confidently as the fish bot swam through the door...
