Lloyd's POV:
I was not leaving Kai on his own, not after that fight with his mother. Although Nya tried to make me feel better about it, I still felt responsible for Kai ending up in here in the first place! I grabbed a nearby chair and pulled it to the bed and sat down. Feeling his forehead, I had pull my hand away almost instantly. His temperature was through the roof, was tensing every once in a while but other than that, he was practically motionless. Not thinking about the worst, I held Kai's hand in mine and (even if everyone thinks I've lost my mind) I started talking to him.
"Do you remember when we fought the Overlord and I got captured? I told myself I wasn't alone, because I was thinking about everyone before I managed to get away. . ." I said quietly, looking at Kai, knowing I wasn't going to get a response. "I know you're going to say otherwise, but it's my fault you're in here and - no matter what anyone says - I'm not leaving you alone."
Hours passed as I stayed by Kai and talked to him about a lot of things until the nurse came in. "Sorry, Green Ninja, it's past visiting hours." She told me softly.
"Alright." I sighed as I rubbed Kai's hand one last time before standing up and walking out of the door. "Is it alright if I can come back tomorrow?" I asked.
"Of course." She answered with a polite nod.
I walked out of the building and looked back at it on last time before disappearing around the corner...
Don't give me that look, I keep my promises. I wasn't leaving Kai on his own, but like everyone else I have to follow the rules (unless you wanna see me in prison, for the forty millionth time). There has to be some way to let Kai know I'm there with him. Maybe Nya has something that might be able to help? I thought to myself as I made my way back to the monastery. I didn't want to deal with what questions the others had for me, so I snuck into my room as stealthily as a ninja can.
I silently opened the window and crawled through, carefully shutting it behind me. So far, so good. I thought as I kicked my shoes off. The light flickered on. Dammit!
"Hey, Lloyd." Nya said as I looked to the doorway.
"Hi Nya."
"You were gone for quite a while. Everything ok?" She asked as I sat down on my bed.
"No. My boyfriend is in hospital and I can't do anything to know if he's alright! He's burning up, always in pain and I can't do anything about it" I sighed sadly before asking. "I don't suppose you have anything magical on you that might be able to help me, do you?"
"I think I do." She responded as she reached into her pocket and pulled out a green shell bracelet. "Wear this when you're asleep and you should be able to talk to Kai through the dream realm."
I accepted the bracelet. "Thank you, Nya."
"You're welcome, I'll fill you in on what happened here tomorrow before you leave again." She winked at me. Did she know why I was gone so long? "Goodnight, Lloyd." She said as she left, shutting the door behind her.
Let's see if this works. . . I thought as I put the cuff style bracelet on, popping the clasp together around my wrist. I changed into something more comfortable before slipping into bed. Within about five minutes, I was asleep. . .
I appeared in a version of Ninjago city, but it was in chaos. The sky was dark red with pitch-black clouds. Thugs roamed the streets, picking on anyone they thought were weak and defenceless. I turned to see what was behind me and there was a dark alleyway. Even though it was dark, I could see a tiny flicker of light. I walked cautiously down the path. "Hello. . ." I called as my voice echoed. The light immediately dimmed. I managed to make my own light source and continued walking. "Is anyone there?" I questioned as something scuffled further down. "I'm here to help you."
"No one helps anyone here." A voice came from behind a dumpster bin. I walked closer and looked around the corner. Crouched by the bin was a teenage kid with a little flame in one hand and the other was holding the side of his chest.
"Kai?"
"The city's not safe. I couldn't do anything to stop them." He whispered, shivering despite the warmth of the flame in his hand.
"What do you mean? We stopped the mermaid queen. You saved your friends." I insisted but Kai just shook his head in defeat.
"No I didn't. After I got this, I tried to seek refuge here. I called for help, for you guys, but no one came. I failed my friends. . . If no one coming when I ask for help isn't a sign that I failed, I don't know what is. . ." Kai stuttered, tears threatening to roll down his face.
"No you haven't! We've failed you. I didn't help you fight your mother, it's my fault you got hurt." It made my heart ache seeing Kai looking so afraid and guilty. I extended my hand, Kai looked at me suspiciously. "Come on. Where's the confident Kai, I know."
"Long gone, Lloyd. Just leave." He shot back as I shock my head.
"Nice try, Kai. I'm not leaving unless you're coming with me." I argued as he locked eyes with me for a few seconds, the suspicion about me fading away as he reached for my hand. "Let's get you out of here." I said as Kai took my hand. I pulled him up, placing his arm over my shoulder. I had my arm around his back, holding his cut as we hobbled out. He seemed to get better as we reached the mouth of the alleyway, his cut healed and was able to stand up without anyone supporting him.
"Thanks, Lloyd." Kai smiled as he pulled me into a hug.
"I promised I wouldn't leave you alone. I intend to keep the promise." I told him as I kissed him on the cheek. "I'll see you soon, buddy."
"You too." He responded as everything went black.
I woke up immediately checking the time. It was 08:00. I took the bracelet off and changed into my ninja gear. I raced down the hallway and bumped into Nya.
"Ow! Good morning to you too, sleepyhead." She greeted as she rubbed her head.
"Sorry, Nya." I apologised quickly. If Kai has recovered, I want to be with him. "Thank you for letting me use the bracelet." I called before racing out the door.
———
I arrived at the hospital and walked into the room where Kai was resting. I opened the door and did the same thing I did yesterday. I sat by him and started talking. His temperature didn't seem as high as yesterday which was good and wasn't as tense either. Maybe hearing my voice will give Kai some hope that he can recover. I told myself as I rubbed his hand gently, my ears getting used to the beeping of the heart rate monitor again.
About an hour passed as I talked to my friend, even if he didn't respond, I knew he could hear me. After seeing him inside his apocalyptic nightmare and giving him hope, I also believed he could recover. As I got to the part about the Serpentine, something happened. Kai tilted his head towards me. That was a good sign! He's recovering! I thought happily as I kept telling stories about our adventures.
A similar thing happened again not to long after, his eyes twitched under his eyelids as he groaned. Thinking that he's going to wake, I decided to get everyone down here. Looks like Nya was right. Kai, you might have scared the living Serpentine out of me, but I love you nonetheless.
