The pictures below are my first attempt at icing a cake with buttercream (American buttercream to be exact)(American buttercream is the most common type of buttercream you'll see around).
"No one ever gets it the first time" is what I had used and still use to console myself.
It looks nice (I think), but people say I'm a perfectionist (and I kinda like that though). Then, I didn't have some of the basic tools. It was frustrating and difficult rubbing and smoothing it down without leaving lines and "veins" (if you know what I mean).
That was the first time that "the icing is better than the cake" happened to me. Cake wasn't bad, it tasted good, but I failed at the texture aspect. The texture wasn't as horrendous as you have in mind, but like people say, I'm a perfectionist.
P.S don't mind the snapchat filters in some (most 😅) of the pics.
