This chapter occurs the same day Farley is babysitting Rose, just so ya know x)
Knox's POV:
She looked at me with eyes the color of ice, her lashes brushing the smooth skin of her pale cheeks. Slender hands trailed my sides, tracing the contours of what lay beneath my shirt. The warm summer air filled the little space between us and I feared I might combust right on the spot.
"Tell me where they are, Knox," she whispered lowly in my ear. The cold metal of her large hooped earrings chilled my skin just like the ice of her dangerous voice.
I refused to say anything.
Sighing she snapped her finger and I felt a sudden cold sting on my back. I bit my cracked lips and willed the pain to fade. Her long fiery red hair gleamed like lava in the dim light of torture room and I couldn't help but think of all the times I'd been here.
It was like we were playing a demented game of tag: using, abusing, slowly murdering each other in game neither I us wanted to play.
"This would be so much easier on both of us if you'd just cooperate," she huffed as she took my face between her claw-like hands and shifted my face.
"You are stupider than I remember, Phoenix," I spat. My comment invited another sharp sting and I noticed that whoever was behind me dug the knife deeper into my shoulder. "Bloody hell," I grunted.
Phoenix's claws sunk into my chin and a frustrated huff escaped my mouth. "Alright, Knox, listen to what you are going to do. You are going to tell me where Galen and the rest of your little gang went. I mean they obviously don't care about you, otherwise they wouldn't have let you get caught, right?" Her voice grated my every nerve, only the metallic scent of blood kept me from tearing out of my bounds and choking her. I wasn't about to out my friends...and she knew that.
She reached behind me, making sure her slender hand brushed the sweat-drenched curls that lay on my neck, and took the knife from her minion behind me. "You know all you Reapers really piss me off," she growled, "the lot of you are so irrational. I give you the choice to save yourself and you all refuse--all because you want to protect each other--"
Suddenly Phoenix stopped and a wicked look bloomed in her eyes. Instantly my blood chilled; a look like that didn't come from thinking of anything good. The point of her knife trailed over my chest, headed on a path to my thundering heart. "You know, I think I've just found a way to make you talk! Ask me how, it's rather ingenious."
I remained silent.
"Well, dearest Knox, I'm going to bring one of you darling friends here! Then every time you refuse to answer, I'll hurt them instead of you. After all, you wouldn't want to be the reason why one of your friends got hurt would you?" She laughed darkly and I knew that she wasn't bluffing.
"There's only one problem with that," I snarled, feeling fire fill my veins. Phoenix narrowed her eyes, "my friends would tear you to shreds."
As an answer she laughed. It was a cold laugh that reminded me of horror movies and muddy puddles.
"Rose can't..."
