Peony's POV:
When I was younger, back in days when I idolized Disney princesses, I had a baby doll named Daisy. Daisy was a gift from my mom (one that was meant to quiet my pleas for a younger sister) and I absolutely treasured her. She was one of those dolls that came with cute cloths and bottles and everything else a toy needed. I would pack Daisy around with me everywhere and attend to her every plastic need. In no way had Daisy ever prepared me to be responsible for another person's well-being....
Three days had passed since the Girl had woken and she was far more I'd bargained for. Out of the thirty-six hours I had only slept for about eight; I had nearly ten miniature heart attacks upon realizing she wasn't were I left her; and I'd given up on keeping the apartment clean. Lilith and the boys weren't faring much better. Girl, though, was far from worn. She would run through the apartment, flipping over furniture, leaning dangerously far out of windows, dancing wildly with her head thrown back, all while I could only watch from my red recliner in pure amazement. I mean where in world did such a soul come from? It was as if the world had never knocked her down, never scared her shitless, never doused her spark. She was a soul that made it through life unscathed. Or so it seemed.
A loud thud erupted from down the hall and I turned to see Lilith sitting on top of a certain squealing blonde. "I've got you now, twerp," Lilith exclaimed. She tossed her long jet black hair out her face and I noticed an unguarded smile taking over.
"O-any! Walka," Girl called, writhing under Lilith in desperate hopes escape. I shook my head and chuckled. Lilith reached down and begun to prod the girl's sides, causing her giggles to turn into frantic shrieks. I watched in amusement as Walker appeared I the door way--his messy blonde hair sticking out in every direction, and his eyes narrowed--and let out an exaggerated gasp. "I'll save, my darling," he shouted playfully before he charged Lilith. The trio tumbled to the ground and began wrestling. I couldn't help but "tsk" from my spot on the recliner.
Galen walked into the living room and noticed the tussle going on. He smiled warmly down at the three, his golden eyes lingering on Girl's beaming face. In that moment it felt like we were all one big happy family; there was just the lot of us (plus Knox, who was cooking lunch in the kitchen. And Farley, who was trying to sneak a bite) and we were perfectly ordinary.
Well, except for the fact that we were the leaders of a renegade gang. And, I guess the fact that Girl was a nameless amnesiac was a little beyond normal...my thoughts were suddenly interrupted as Girl jumped into my seat and tipped the recliner.
"Girl!" I shrieked as my balance was thrown back.
The girl, whose striking icy blue eyes were looking at Lilith for approval, hummed excitedly which translated into something along the lines of, Blame Lilith, she told me too! I rolled my forest green eyes and looked at Galen for some kind of support, however Galen wasn't looking at me. He was biting his lip, dark brows furrowed in thought, molten eyes staring absently at a spot on the ground. I shifted my playful attitude to a more serious one and nudged Galen's foot, his concentration broke and he peered down at me in confusion.
"What's going on up there," I asked him quietly.
Galen's response was not something I expected--in retrospect I should've, I mean for Pete's sake my life was far from normal--"She needs a name."****** 2 hours later ********
"What about Doinna," Farley said from his spot on the floor. Girl huffed angrily and poked him roughly in the ribs with the cane she had found earlier.
"Farley, for the last time we aren't calling her anything to do with the whole Jane Doe thing," Galen growled, for what seemed like the hundredth time.
Lilith spoke up and the tirade of possible names began again, filling the living room and bouncing between us only to fall into silence. "I like Stephanie."
"Milah? Tera? Kathleen?"
"Victoria, maybe, or Elisabeth?"
"No way, those are boring! Let's name her Vixen! Isn't there a super hero with that name?"
I scoffed at Farley's suggestion. On the outside she may have fit the name, but our Girl was hardly qualified for a name like that. She was too sweet...too innocent. Her wild mane of golden curls framed a face of childish beauty. I looked down at the girl in question, and was surprised to see her watching the argument with a small frown. Her slender hand tugged gently at the small pendant that hung around her neck.
It was a small thing, one we had never been able to coax away from her, just a wee bit bigger than dime. The metal was a dull silver, decorated with curving vines and the letter "R".
That's when it hit me.
"Her name should start with an R," I said just loud enough to silence everyone else.
All eyes turned to Girl or more specifically her necklace. I watched as understanding lit their faces. "Robin?" Knox tried.
"Ronnie," Farley guessed.
"I like Reyna, or possibly Rissa," Lilith added.
Walker, who had been rather quiet during the last hour, spoke up with a name that made everyone pause. "Rose Darling."
Galen glance at Girl and tried out the name, letting it slip softly from his lips and tumble into the air between the two of them,"Rose."
She stared up at him then gave us one of her brightest smiles. "Rose," she echoed happily, "Rose, Rose, Rose!"
Walker laughed and scooped Girl into his muscular arms and spun her around.
"Rose Darling it is!"
