The trio rushed to the principal's office banging hard on the door.
" It's not opening"
Temi panicked stomping her feet on the ground anxiously.
Henry paused and rushed for a big stone by a corner.
" Move back"
He ordered and Temi and Teju stepped back immediately.
Henry took the first strike on the door making a dent on the door. He hit harder again and this time the door swung open.
They rushed inside. The sight of Amara laying motionless on the floor sent Temi into a frenzy.
She screamed in horror holding Amara's body.Teju searched the room frantically but when Henry pointed to the broken window he frowned and rushed out.
"Amara!"
Temi screamed administring CPR in the best way she could .
Henry came close and placed two fingers on her neck looking away distraught right after.
Temi was already in tears but she would not stop.
"why isn't she responding?" She cried out.Suddenly Amara gasped .
Temi screamed in excitement hugging her tightly. She was greatly relived and her tears where now of joy.
Henry leaned for a hug too wiping off the tears on his face.
Amara chuckled .
She looked up at them with a little hint of sadness.
" I saw my mom"
Temi nodded slightly and wiped off the blood on Amara's nose still sobbing.
" I was so afraid that we had lost you"
Amara smiled and held Temi's hands.
" For a second I wanted to be lost. Lost in my mother's embrace"
She looked sorrowfully into Temi's eyes remembering the touch of her mother knowing she could have been reunited with her." I'm certain your mother would not want that for you. She would want you to not give up."
Henry encouraged.
Amara quivered in tears nodding her head.
" He lied to us Amara".
Henry started his was mouth full of so many words.
Temi nodded
" Teju is the son of the proprietress and the caretaker killed the proprietress just by that tree"
Temi added still aghast.
" That explains what you saw Temi"
Temi nodded trying to not recall the scary sight.Teju rushed into the office with a look of frustration on his face.
" I wasn't able to catch him but I discovered a tunnel probably his hideout. It is right below the uncompleted building" He spoke amidst quick breaths.
" Tunnel....." Amara mouthed quite surprised.
Teju nodded a bit regretful.
"Wish I had found out earlier. It explains why he was always stealth. Accessing the buildings anytime he liked."Amara sat up now determined.
" I think I know just how to put an end to this MF"Henry shun his bright torchlight through the largely dug out hole leading down into the tunnel. There was a wooden ladder stretching down from the hole. Beside the hole was a heap of old cement blocks on a large cement tray. To Henry it won't be hard for the police to overlook the sheer disguise , the place was full of so many building materials.
Temi looked worriedly at Amara as she adjusted her clothes. She was doubtful. If the caretaker was strong enough to nearly kill her the first time it would not be hard for him to kill her this time around.
"We could lock him down there and leave this all behind , no looking back!"
Amara shook her head. She wasn't going to coward away this time around.
"No more running. It ends now! ".
she climbed down from the ladder slowly with the torch in hand. The bright light pierced through the darkness.
The tunnel was very old with only one passageway stretching down far ahead enough to contain two people. There was a foul smell in the air. Several insects and rodents were crawling around and the loud echoing sounds of crickets chirping filled her ears.
Amara was frightened but she tried her best to hold herself together. Clutching a small paper hard she began to make her way down the tunnel not certain how far it led.She paused and checked behind her. Temi and Henry were following slowly. She sighed relieved that she was not alone.
She looked back at the wet path and continued but as she moved forward she felt a breeze rush past her.
She stood still petrified.
From the corner of eyes she caught something staring at her she squealed and jolted backwards.
Her mind was going wild and she was struggling to contain her emotions.
Temi urged her on assuring her that there was nothing there. She took a deep breath and tried to ease herself.
She looked ahead and noticed a flicker of light.
He certainly was now aware of their presence.
She could hear quick footsteps ahead . She quickened her steps ignoring her increased heartbeats.
"Wait " she screamed.
Her voice echoed throughout the hallway.
Henry and Temi paused.
There was nothing now, not even a single sound like he had also paused in his tracks.
Then all of a sudden the footsteps continued but this time around the footsteps were faster , coming straight at her. She could hear her heartbeat but she still struggled to steady herself. He was certainly close now. She signalled the duo behind to hide in a corner while she moved slowly.
She paused taking hold of herself.
" I can help you get your land back!"
She could now make out his features . Standing just like he had stood hours ago at the gate but this time there was surprise on his face. She couldn't tell if it was from seeing her or learning he could get his land back.He chuckled and adjusted not perturbed by the bright light shun directly at his face.
With eyebrows raised and shoulders high up he yelled.
" You think I'm stupid!"
He was fast Amara should have seen that coming. What exactly was she expecting? For it to be as easy as handing over a code to a safe and a few ownership documents?.She was under him again. The torchlight far from her reach. She could hear Temi screaming as the caretaker threw punches ,she looked up at him and for the first time she could see things clearly. She reached for his neck and held hard at his collar but he yanked her hands away. Henry was trying to make his way to him. And when he was finally able to make it to the vengeful beast he was quickly yeeted across the hallway slamming his head hard on the dug out walls.
Amara laid still with her nose and a swollen eye with her fist tightened.Temi cried in agony, fear stricken once again. Satisfied by her fear the caretaker rose to his feet and began his slow but creepy steps towards Temi.
" You remind me of Betty"
He spat out thick mucus with a grin now plastered on his face . Temi could only whimper in fear unable to move.
" How pleasant it was to watch her bleed from every corner of her body. Especially between her thighs"
Temi shook her head in horror. If she died now she would definitely haunt Henry. With his back turned , Amara rose slowly to her feet.
There was a smirk on her face as she wiped the blood off her nose .
" My mum didn't escape from you...." She traced her hands up to her waist. Her breath was no longer fast and her innocence was now replaced by something else , something darker but far from evil.
The caretaker slowly turned to face her quite displeased.
" You may not look like your mother but you're just as hard to kill and that's the thing I hate"
He launched at her but this time she wasn't going to go down again. She reached for her pepper spray and gave him a little intro. He held his eyes screaming in pain. He swung his other hand recklessly but with a quick crack of his bones she brought it down . Temi rushed to her side no longer afraid. She looked at the barely satisfied Amara and with a slight nod they packed a punch immediately knocking him out .
He was now the one still and something in the sight made Amara pleased.
"You're too slow......" She whispered.
Temi rushed to help Henry who was now struggling up to his feet.Amara looked at palms and flung his amulet to the ground stomping it with all her might.
" My mum died fighting"
She crouched with a satisfied smile ,she was certain. She loved the emotionless look on his face but his head would look better tilted to the other side .
She positioned herself and threw her last punch.
