"Wow," Zadie breathed

"Wow," Zadie breathed. "How the hell did you do that?"

The shock was patent on her and Doug's face as Zadie proceeded to rewind the scene, if only to immense the evident disbelief she had. We were, once again, situated in one of Doug's teacher's classroom, rewatching a clip Scott and Kinsey had directed all on their own--if only everyone else was aware that these 'magical effects' of a vine slithering out to capture Kinsey's leg and drag her across the woods was nothing more then a key with the ability to make a carrot pop out of the ground.

Totally and unbelievably a--

"Time's lap effect,"  Scott quickly addressed like it was so obvious. Zadie and Doug and Chase, however, did not believe him entirely as they gave him incredulous looks.

"Yeah, great work guys. It's almost magical," Gabe hinted with a teasing grin forming on his lips. I nudged him in the ribs, if only to humor him even more. We didn't need anyone getting suspicious, especially Chase who has been a lot more attentive these days.

Just last night, for instance, when I went over to Chase's house, I didn't ignore the many askew artifacts his mom had hoarded across the wall and a creepy replica doll house of Keyhouse. Chase merely stated his mom was a kleptomaniac, but I considered it creepy and off-putting to know one of your neighbors had a replica of your house and too many books on Matheson history.  Chase seemed even more weirder then usual when I asked him why he never came over to my house, even when I invited him over, and Chase would quickly avoid my question with a simple 'I've been busy a lot.' The only non-weird thing about Chase and his parents was his dad--his dad was a therapist, he was kind, funny, and had a lot to say about Chase when he was a kid. Reliving Chase's embarrassing moments in life was one thing I could actually say I enjoyed about last night because other then that, Chase's mom was sort of like too fascinated with my family and had way too much on Keyhouse to make me feel entirely comfortable she was not a serial killer or a sociopath. Nevertheless, Chase apologized for any evident discomfort I claimed out of the dinner, and promised me he did not plan for the night to go the way it did.

I forgave him because I wasn't going to tell him that my family was being stalked by a creepy demon who could murder us easily and had magical keys that could give us the ability to do things that wouldn't be possible to the normal everyday life.

I think if he or any of his family knew about that, his mom would have a hay-day.

"So, you just used a time laps effect?" Chase reiterated with a highly unconvinced look on his face.

Kinsey quickly interjected before Scott had the ability to say anything, "Yeah, it was pretty easy, actually."

"Yeah, it's cool and all," Doug added with a sarcastic attitude, "Except that, let me state the obvious here, what's Neprahopidae doing chasing Amanda in the woods? He's a sea monster."
