Miss Kaede took Kohako and pretended that she was her birth mom to try to avoid suspicion. Miss Kaede sadly heard her friend's rushed story and how she was the reason her family is dying now. Miss Kaede felt really sad for her poor friend. But she suddenly heard knocking at the door and her friend said that it was time to part ways. She ran away from the back door and tried to run to another place where no one recognizes her.

Meanwhile, Miss Kaede took of Kohako's mask and told her to pretend to be blind and not open her eyes no matter what. Kohako was clever so she listened to what miss Kaede said.

Then Miss Kaede went to check who was at the door. Turns out they were angry people looking for any members of the Najimis. Miss Kaede claimed that she'd never allow such a monster in her house. As a lie of course.

They did a quick search in her house but they didn't find any trace of any of the family members. They didn't really suspect that the little kid was one of them. And then they left they eventually house.

Kohako's mother tried to escape but she got caught and some people gathered around her and burned parts of her leg with torches so that she becomes unable to run away or try to escape.

The town was popular for using its own execution. There was a big wooden circular thing that was very deep and filled with boiling water. They'd drop people they wanna execute in there so that they could drown and boil till death. That's a very horrible torture to be honest. But whatever, I don't really care.

Miss Kaede saw the citizens capturing her friend and she knew that she wouldn't survive. So she decided to adopt Kohako as her daughter and started explaining things to her.

Miss Kaede-

Wait wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Don't you think that you seem unusually polite too?

...Just shut up and let me continue.
Miss Kaede explained to Kohako how she was adopting her, and told her how she has to pretend that miss Kaede is her birth mom. Miss Kaede had black hair and blue eyes which doesn't seem to be able to cause suspicion to them. Miss Kaede also told Kohako to always keep her eyes closed and pretend to be blind.
