"He's too young, we can't tell him yet."
"Yes, I know. We'll wait a little while to break it to him."
Iron lay asleep in the cave across from them. He looked so peaceful, even if he was cold laying on the chilled stone by himself. He did not yet know about his sister's death, she wouldn't have survived the freezing weather and fridged snow, her pelt hadn't grown thick enough. Her death took a toll on her parents, they couldn't bare to see her frozen in the river after she fell in. They had to accept it and move on, no matter how hard it was.
Iron scrambled around in his bed, his head shot up, gray eyes filled with sleep glanced around the cave.
"Mother, where's Songbird?" He said in a hazy voice.
"Well, Iron," Sunny started slowly.
"She died," Birch started to cross the cave towards his son.
Iron's eyes turned hard, he lay his head back down on the stone without a word.
