BILL: I know you're there, Luke
Under a small light, Bill Carver stood up, overlooking a map of the area. Luke, who'd been watching the man in silence, spoke...
LUKE: C'mon, Bill, man. Sitting in here all by yourself? It ain't healthy. Why not come hang out with the rest of us?
BILL: Because I've got an entire group depending on me, Luke. Assuming Tavia and the new recruits return safely, I'll have an entire community to worry about. I can't be sitting on my ass around a campfire singing kumbaya
Luke turned his head toward the group that sat around the campfire outside. His eyes landed on Shawn, who was busy walking around, meeting the various members of the camp...
LUKE: Yeah, well, the kid seems to be warming up to everyone
Bill didn't reply. However, he subtly turned his gaze to Shawn, the boy walking up to an Indian man who was currently cooking for everyone.
????: Oh, uh, hello, random little boy... can I help you?
*Sniff* *Sniff*
The aroma wafted from the pot, filling the air with a delightful smell. Shawn's eyes widened with curiosity and hunger.
SHAWN: Wow, that smells amazing! What are you cooking?
????: This here? it's called Curry, it's pretty popular in my culture. It's a blend of aromatic spices, vegetables, and sometimes meat, simmered together to create a flavorful and comforting dish. Wanna try a bite?
Shawn's face lit up with excitement. That alone was all the confirmation the man needed. He smiled warmly and scooped a spoonful of the fragrant curry onto a bowl, handing it to Shawn. Once the Curry hit the child's taste buds, he couldn't help but let out a delighted expression.
SHAWN: Mmm
The man chuckled, pleased to see Shawn enjoying the food.
????: I'm glad you enjoyed it. Food has a way of bringing people together, you know? It's a universal language that transcends barriers.
Placing the spoon back into the pot, the man introduced himself
RAJEEV: My name is Rajeev, but most people just call me Reggie. It's nice to meet you...
Shawn smiled
SHAWN: My name's Shawn Everett
????: Oh man, Shawn Everett. Hmm, Everett, now why does that name sound so familiar...?
Both Shawn and Reggie turned to the source of the voice, only to see Detroit approaching the two of them, this time, however, he seemed to actually be sober.
RAJEEV: Is that a sober Detroit, I see? I hear those are an endangered species
The young stoner ran a hand through his curly brown hair
DETROIT: Hopefully, they'll soon be extinct. How do you guys do it?
Shawn and Reggie exchanged amused glances at Detroit's remark
RAJEEV: One day at a time, Dee. One day, at a time... Dee?
Detroit had completely spaced out and was currently staring blankly ahead until Reggie snapped his fingers
*SNAP!*
RAJEEV: Dee!?
DETROIT: Huh? Oh, uh yeah... that's what I came over here for. Shawn, right? Say little dude, I hope you won't be super mad or anything, but do you mind if I have a look at your things? I don't plan on taking anything, but Bill wants to make sure I keep stock of any weapons in the camp
