Once upon a time, a prince and a commoner fell in love with each other. But they had realised that not everything is flavourful even with Sugar, Spice and Anything Nice.
Carmelita closed her book. She finishes University today, and everything that she had worked for can be seen right on her. Her bachelor's degree in biomedicine, her stethoscope, and the white laboratory gown she wears. Going to the city every four days to study the title she is given today is one big of a sacrifice for someone living a normal life like her. In her family, she is the first ever medicine graduate, the first ever doctor, and the first ever to complete schooling which inspired the person she is now. Life is a bit tough for an immigrant like their family. She's been living a simple, and happy life that none of them expected she will ever attract a prince, but there it happened.
Peter, Prince of Oxford, has been living a life of a royalty. Belonging as a grandson of the queen of England, and one in the line of succession. He had lived in a castle all his life when everything changed to what seems like a rainbow bridge connecting his life with a commoner girl. For Peter, all that matters for him is his family of monarchy and his duties and responsibilities from being born with a blood of royal. But a space in his heart for this kind of romance opened when he visited Australia.
Against all odds, the two continued the love they have. With the prince putting all he has in line. His crown, his title, reputation, everything he have and had worked for. Everything changed when he found her.
"I'll give up the crown" The sentence that escaped Peter's lips. His mother watches his son from afar, with tears rolling down her cheeks, witnessing how determined her son is to give up everything for a commoner. The rest of the monarchy watches them, but they'll never feel the same pain that the prince feels with their empathy. None from the monarchy that is against of Carmelita feels that. He had known all along that his family won't accept the fact that his heart beats for her.
Looking at the reigning monarch now is way harder than Peter thought. If it only wasn't for the throne that is a lot hard to deal with, maybe things would have been different than this way.
"Your majesty, favour their love, for the peace of all. The reputation of this family on the public. Unless you disagree, there's never been a protocol that a connection between a member of this family and a commoner is impossible..." Carl, prince of Manchester can no longer tolerate it. He had known Peter than anybody else in his life. Peter does things beyond anyone else's capacity therefore he rightfully believes that the prince has every right to love anyone. Perhaps he had been in the same situation as his cousin.
"What is it not to let our freedom be?" There are no answers from the monarch in the throne. The world had known about the woman the prince of Oxford had been seeing. The public had learnt a lot more about their love including the status of life Carmelita has. The monarchy does not like the fact that their family are been being a discussion about this matter. This had become a debate with the opinions of their kingdom, a controversy put upon the monarchy by people who believes they had known a lot about his life. The world is either favour of them or not. Some are too hard to please. And he gets it right, not everything works the way we want it to "I would flee England too if that's what it takes"
"Son, please, you are a prince since the very beginning of your life, when I born you, think about what you've done for your people too. Of course, I would bless you with Carmelita, but don't let your love consume you like this. You can find a way" His mother ran to him, cupping his cheeks. He became tired of wearing the crown on his head.
"No, mother, I can't keep living like this, I can't live without her" It's been almost a year. Every day are slow every time the monarchy disagrees. He had tried every possible way to live a life with the one he loves, his princess, now the only option is to take off that crown on his head for good. He knows that his mother is not concerned about the crown, but that she knows every capability of her son. She cares about nothing else but him and his happiness, but some parts of what she said kills him. His love continues to consume him.
"I just don't want you to be the monarch with the most controversy, my son, life is hard that way. And you know it well my dear because you've lived with it at some point of your life"
"I already am, your highness, mother, and I can't take the fault" If their love wasn't just escalated this way. In a way that is bad. Maybe he wouldn't have to give up the crown. If only their family agreed in their love, maybe the people could have granted their fate.
"Cousin, you'll find a way. Keep the crown and do not flee our country. You are our family, please" Prince Carl curled his hands into fists. "There would be a way for issue to settle with you and Carmelita"
"But I lost Carmelita. For that, I can never find a way, I can never find my way back home"
"Then what is this? What is this sacrifice all about? You would only give up everything if you don't believe in yourself. Only if you lost her, but no"
"Give up the crown, Peter, the next in the line would take your place and flee this country at once. Show how water can be thicker than blood to our own people" A monarch said
And for that, Carmelita moved on from the past. She is a lot healthier in her path now. She got her family, friends but the prince. All that the two have learnt is that their love is all the taste of Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice.
