Xiao wasn't in the darkness for very long, but then, it didn't take much time for it to become unbearable. By the time everything changed again, he was gasping for air, trying his best to breathe after being deprived of it while trapped in that abyss-like place.
Trying to calm his heart rate, he still couldn't figure out just what that place was and why he was always alone when he went there.
Finally, he looked up, recognizing the area as Jueyun Karst. Of course, it looked drastically different from how it did in the real world, with blood coating the grass and again, dead bodies lying around, a clear sign that this was during the archon war.
Suddenly, he was startled by the sound of a person behind him. Whipping around, he saw Zhongli, or Morax, at the time, coming his way. More than that, he seemed to be carrying someone in his arms. Frowning, the Yaksha was surprised to find that it was himself the god of contracts was carrying. Or at least, the past version of himself.
Coming closer, he observed the state past-Xiao was in. He looked awful; blood covering his clothes, one of his legs broken, and a huge gash on his head. Suddenly, Morax spoke, his voice a low whisper.
"Not to worry, Xiao, I will bring you somewhere safe," he smiled down at the unconscious Yaksha, "I know some people who can help you." Present-Xiao frowned, trying to remember when this was. Sure, he had been wounded many times in the war, but he didn't recall Morax ever having to save him like this, except once a very long time ago...
"Morax?" A voice suddenly spoke, and he looked up to see Y/n jumping down from atop one of the mountains. "Who is this?" The future archon smiled back at her, despite them not knowing each other very well at the time.
"Oh, this is Xiao. I found him horribly wounded a few days ago and decided to take him in," he explained, "Could you help me get him to Guizhong? He needs her healing." Nodding, Y/n led the way back to where Guizhong was, just outside of Guili Plains speaking with some mortals.
Present-Xiao sighed, now realizing what was going on. This was the day he first met you, shortly after Morax had saved him from his previous master, an evil god who had tortured him most of his life up to that point.
He watched you explain the situation to Guizhong, who quickly got to work healing Past-Xiao. You supported her with your own power, providing energy when needed. The process was more difficult than Present-Xiao had expected, but then again, he had been unconscious when it happened and had never been able to see them work.
Finally, Guizhong was finished healing him. Although she had wanted to stay until he woke up, she had had to leave to tend to the people of the Guili Assembly. Morax and you, however, stayed by Past-Xiao until he finally woke up.
When he did, he immediately shot out of bed, nearly hitting his head and injuring himself all over again in the process. Morax, not knowing what to do, wasn't much help as you tried to calm the poor Yaksha down.
"Hey there," You spoke softly, "Can you sit back down? I promise I won't hurt you, but your wounds might get worse if you move too quickly." Past-Xiao looked over at you, frowning as he studied your face, trying to figure out your intentions. After a moment, he seemed to decide you was safe enough and carefully sat back down on the bed. Noticing that Morax was also there, he looked up at the god.
"Hello, Xiao," Morax smiled, "I'm glad to see you're alright."
"What happened?" The Yaksha spoke, feeling his head throb with a dull pain. You seemed to notice, because you used your vision to prepare a small block of ice, wrapping your icy blue scarf around it as a makeshift ice pack. You handed it to Past-Xiao, who looked confused.
