Xiao wasn't surprised this time when he found himself transported back the broken Liyue Harbor. He hadn't even gotten time to dwell on the sudden appearance of a Mist Flower in such a place as that abyss before it was all gone again. Just like before, he was racing after the person that held your scarf, chasing them through Chihu Rock.

Recalling what the familiar voice had said last time about 'one day,' he willed himself to go faster, to catch them. He was done failing, done being away from you. He was determined now more than ever to make some kind of progress towards getting to your soul back.

As he ran, eyes fixated on the person in front of him, it began to rain. This explained the scent from earlier, as well as the sounds of thunder. However, he quickly realized that this rain wasn't the normal kind, not at all. No, it was raining blood.

Forcing himself to ignore the putrid scent and awful images this knowledge brought to mind, Xiao continued chasing after the person, who seemed to have slowed down slightly as they came to the same realization he had about the blood. Finally, he was starting to close the distance between them.

They seemed to realize this, because they sped up, but by then it was too late. Reaching a hand as far out as he could, Xiao finally managed to grab hold of their arm, stopping them in their tracks.

They both panted, trying to calm their heart rates from the intense chase just moments before. Finally, he managed to pull himself together and stand up straight, adjusting his grip on their arm so he could be sure they wouldn't be able to get away.

"Who are you?" He questioned, irritated that they still tried to hide their face from him by looking away. When they didn't answer, he scowled, grabbing their other arm and turning them around to face him.

Their hood still covered their face, but now he could see strands of h/c hair peaking out from under it, reminding him of yours.

"Who are you?" He asked again, receiving the same answer. Finally, he gave up trying to talk and instead ripped their hood from their face, finally revealing their identity.

"Y-Y/n?"

To his surprise, it was you, the very person he was here for. The very person who the scarf belonged to in the first place. It wasn't your soul, but that didn't even matter at this point. He was happy even to see a fragment of you now. Your eyes looked sad as blood continued to rain down upon the two of you, running down your face.

Before he could say anything else, the ground beneath the two of you disappeared, leaving nothing but empty space and sending you both plummeting through the air.

The last thing Xiao saw was an ocean of blood rushing towards him as he fell.

..........

When he opened his eyes again, he was back on the mountain, high above the clouds, which seemed slightly grey now, as if it was going to rain somewhere below them.

You, of course, were kneeling in the flowers a few meters away from him, and he, of course, could not move. It was beginning to anger him that he kept coming back here, seeing you so close, only to be rendered powerless to get your attention, ripped away from you mere moments later.

This time, though, before he could even attempt to call out to you or move, you suddenly turned around and looked back at him. Your eyes widened in shock, and he could feel his own do the same.

How was this possible? Before, you, or rather, your soul, had never noticed him when he appeared here. What had changed?

Somewhere around them, he could hear the familiar voice that had been taunting him all this time.
